    Pangasius hypophthalmus,
Sutchii catfish. They're both the same species, just one is albino, the other isn't.

Theoratically, they are breeding compatible, but you'll never beed them in a home aquarium. They get to over a meter long in most circumstances, which means you'd something on the level of a tropical pond to breed them.

I speak under correction, but I do believe that they're bred in the Far East as a food using hormones to stimulate breeding.

yeah, I agree those are iridescent sharks, aka Pangasius hypophthalmus they grow up 1.2m so you need a very large aquarium for that monster

A few months, if you feed them correctly and keep up with the much needed water changes.

Otherwise, under improper care, they're likely to experience stunted growth, in which they don't grow properly, and only last a few years due to internal problems.

Care and feeding: Since they are omnivorous, the Pangasius Catfish or Iridescent Shark Catfish will generally eat all kinds of live, fresh, and flake foods. To keep a good balance give them a high quality flake food or pellet everyday. Feed brine shrimp (either live or frozen) or blood worms. As they get older they loose their teeth, and like the Pacus, become more and more vegetarian.
Distribution: The Pangasius Catfish or Iridescent Shark Catfish fish are found near Bangkok, Thailand. They have also been referred to as the Asian Shark Catfish in some earlier publications.
Size - Weight: The Pangasius Catfish or Iridescent Shark Catfish get up to 39 inches (100 cm). Yes, over 3 feet long! There are other species of Pangasius that are sometimes sold as pangasius catfish, namely, Pangasius pangasius and Pangasius gigas that can reach 300 cm or 9 feet long!
Social Behaviors: When they are young they like to school up, but will become more and more solitary as the get older. They are generally a good community fish and can be kept with most size tank-mates.http://animal-world.com

    hope that helps Bro...

It upsets me, i see these fish very easily for sale at various lfs's, with no warning on how big they get or anything of the like. I'm guessing the person you bought them from didn't tell you that, Dasher? They are pretty, but in the end just a mission to keep. People should be warned...

Shaun, when copying and pasting info, please refer to the site you got it from with a link. It's in the rules and regulations.

@ Dasher - take them back to the shop while you still can. There is no way you'll have a tank big enough for them in the future.

Family of the above fish are available at your local Oceanbasket, as linefish!
Just ask for Swai or Basa - very nice eating fish if grilled. They are freshwater Aqua-cultured fish and is like Nile-perch, sometimes available on the menu!
Ps: I've got nothing to do with said company, except as occasional customer!
    Gert.

I need to know exactly how many months before they grow oversize,if it's something like 3-5 months then i should be able to handle it.(i'm adding a swimming pool to the house, might as well add a fish tank.)

So,Anyone have a tank which can hold a 300cm long catfish for a few months? (planning on making my own custom tank for the buggers, but they are fairly small now.)

Lol. The ones you have should grow to a maximum of roughly 90-100cm in captivity. Bear in mind also that these fish like to live in groups (ie: shoal). And again, remember that these are pwerful fish that can swim quite fast, and are known to make short migrations in the wild...

So maybe a tank / pond of about 1200 x 1200 x 300 cm would work for a small school.
