The first week in Feb is always time for the historic racing. I will be there, this time I am leaving the bells at home since it drove the spectators mad near me in the pit area.

It should a eventful day if Killarney can keep things on schedule. Looks to be expensive to go in tho - R60 per person per day (Dunno why they made it that expensive, they are loosing out on spectators). The sad part is they dont have as many foreign entries as they did the previous years. Also not sure about how many guys from around SA entered this year.

Some of the local entries that will be there (this was taken at last years event)

Some of the other cars that participated - some even took part in classic F1 racing back in the days

Hehehe the red lotus 7 (with the number 7) is my dad's :p Hence me at the races. The best part is the fact that we spend most of the day in the pits with them and the cars. His pit box is the 3rd last one at Cape Town Corner - I am always on the roof watching cars speeding down the back straight, trying to out break each other on the hairpin turn and then speed away on the pit straight.

The GT's are another car that is do die for I agree, and if you look carefully the metalic green car no 8 was a rare aston martin DB something or another (yes I have forgotten :p)

Hmm for a female I watch way to much racing - waiting for the F1 season to start as well :p

4 cylinder Ford engine, Cant remember the technical details, they have just rebuilt the car from scratch since he wrote the car off in a race in east london last year.

But its funny how seriously they take the racing - all of them have the electronic systems that hook a laptop up to the car to work out the fuel injection and gear rations. Vir ou toppies is hulle scary!

But its loads of fun, we go basically to every race during the year that he participates in. The nice thing is he now does the track in 1min22secs. He is aiming for 1min 19 tho. Knowing him he can shave that time off, he just needs the practice again. Especially since my youngest brother's boss took the lotus around the track in 1min19. But then again Steve is blindingly fast around killarney. I will take pics for you :p

oh thats sweet! i know that they use to run the 2l toyota motors on them. we had one in the westrand that had a turbo convertion! wow!

anyway, sounds like the gotech systems, plug the laptop in, set all your setting, cold start, fuel ratio per RMP level, very interesting!

And I found the car name :p

The car of the show will be Irvine Laidlaw̢۪s 1957 Aston Martin DBR2/1 which is one of only two in the world. The other resides in Canada. This is one of the most expensive cars ever to race in South Africa, with the current owner having paid 6.3 million pounds for the car! For the classic car enthusiast to hear this car at full chat is an experience of a life time.

    That car made me drool!

This one was second on my list but mainly because it was one of the cars used to race F1 with:

Ok so it was a good weekend, there is still some racing left but the heat got to us so we went home early today. 4 cars caught fire today due to the air temp being 40 and I dont even want to guess what the track temp was.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otIn3NlTPOw&feature=youtu.be

Short horrible vid of my dad leaving the pits yesterday for his first race. It was more to capture some of the noise. I was semi deaf last night due to the noise :p

And instead of uploading pics here and chowing bandwith, I added it to my web album - https://picasaweb.google.com/106890303827020447330/Historic4th5thFeb12 You can go thru there -50 odd photos of some of the classics there.
