Hi All,I need some help with regards to the choice of a cannister filter. My tank is 450 liters that I will be turning into a planterd tank with small South American tetras, Cory's and some dwarf cichlets. I need a cannister filter that will be sufficient. My main concern is that the filter starts leaking when I'm not home and floods the house so I need something reliable.I can get a Fluval 405 for R1500? Is the 406 a lot better as it is R2700. How are the Sun Sun's. I ve heard that Tetra 1200 starts leaking after a while? Please give me your recommendations. I don't want to overspend but need decent filtration. I realise I would propably need 2 Fluval 405's? How much are the Fluval FX4's? Any sponsors that can do a deal for me?

I have had allot of cascade and dophin filters, never had a issue, but yes the eheims and fluvals have much better build quality, but they do exactly the same thing, and the cheaper filters I have used never gave any trouble

Go for the sun sun 2000L/H. a few guys on the forum has them and myself and they are super quite and very very nice... Nice flow rate and powerful. easy to clean as it has a ball valve that you close by the inlet and outlet pipes.

Do a search on the forum for the sun sun as there are a few posts and threads about them. The dolphin tend to get noisy after a while.
a plus on the sun sun it that parts are regularly available.

Hi @Eight, I have the Sun Sun 304B 2000l/h. I paid R1350.00 for it. Only bought it in the begining of Dec 2012. It is super silent, user friendly, has 4 baskets for filter media, all the pipes and spraybars you need. Assembles and disassembles with great easy, primes very easy. I am very impressed with this filter and would definately recommend it to anyone. There are also bigger one's, 404B I think is something like 4000l/h if I remember correct. I run the 304B on my 4ft tank and it works great. It has a 9W UV light in as well but personnaly I think this was a sales gimmick, but none the less, a great cannister filter. Did I mention it is Super Quite! HTH.

Most of the problems with pumps/filters becoming noisy over time are due to the impeller becoming worn. Usually they are cheap and quick to replace and problem is sorted. Most of the manufacturers recommend replacing the impeller once a year. Spare impellers are definitely available for Dophin and Sun Sun.

I have 2x Fluval FX5's and they are fantastic filters. If I remember correctly I paid around R3200.00 each.

Congrats on your choice of filter, hope you have many good service years from it, don't think you will regret on getting an Eheim.
