    Hi,

Untill recently I had this breeding pair of fish.

They laid eggs which hatched quite a few times.

    Unfortunately one died.

I would like to know if someone can identify these fish ?

    Thanks you.

Those little guys are African Jewel Cichlids(Hemichromis bimaculatus or a hybrid of them with H.lafalili) and are blacklisted...

These are Hemichromis Bimaculatus ... Otherwise known as Jewel Cichlids....

Unfortunately, these are fish that are illegal to keep in SA without a permit. They are on the SA Blacklist, and as a result we are not allowed to discuss the keeping/breeding/trading of them on TASA.

    Regards

    Oops sorry,

The LFS did not tell me about this when I bought the pair.

    This was back in 2007.

I even made a video on the hundreds of fry swimming.

These fish are the best parents compared to other fish than what I have seen.

No, the LFS won't tell you this, in fact, I doubt that most LFS's even know any of the fish are on the BL, as they are just interested in a sale and do not inspect and memorise the BL. They just order the fish that have previously sold well off their wholesalers lists.

Not all LFS's are like this though, but the 'good' ones are few and far between.

They will be good parents as they are cichlids, and as a collective group, cichlids are known for their parenting skills.

Unfortunaltely though, we cannot continue discussing this, as it constitutes 'keeping' the fish.

    Regards
    G!
