You can look into levasimole for worms, often used for pigeons

I have heard of it, but apparently it only paralyzes the worm. Not sure though

@Lowflyer7 yep you need the right meds. Currently I'm dealing with the same issue. Treatment is stressful on the fish. Best is to feed medicated foods. Here's some pics of my fish in treatment. 6 electric blue rams, 4 surviving. Sorry for the terrible pic, bad phone camera. Water murkiness caused by the meds.

It wouldn't be so widely used if it wasn't effective..

Shame man. It looks hectic. Not sure if I should move all my fish to my 2 foot quarantine and treat them in there while the tank stands empty and perform regular water changes and vacuum the sand.

Nemarid is watered down levamisole. If you can find a good bottle of it, use it in their food. Also treat all your tanks to be safe. It can spread like crazy and is stubborn to get rid of.

Personally I would move the fish to a separate quarantine tank. Then, disinfect the main tank, including all equipment substrate and decorations and restart it. Plants also need to be disinfected. Shrimp and snails may not tolerate the meds you choose to use so check instructions carefully.

The worms need to be paralysed so that the fish can pass them then you need to vacuum them out of the tank. I've used prazi Pro and metronidazole but they didn't work. Then I did about 4 treatments with nemarid in their food and it worked and with fewer deaths than with the other medicines. So levasimole works really well.

So, I lost two neons and a peppered cory this morning. All of which have been with me for over year now:(

Load shedding isn't helping either as I live in a valley where it gets really cold at night.

Trying to get a hold of some levamisole to start treatment.

I watched a YouTube video where a guy treated the fish food as well as the water to kill off the worms and Lava and exactly 2 weeks later, he treated the food and water again, with water changes and vacuuming in between. He says this sorted his camallanus issue out.

Thoughts? This would be done to prevent me having to restart the tank, again:eek:

I would go with this method
I have also found that moving the fish out to another tank often add to the stress and causes more harm than good but thats just my personal opinion

Went through that a while back. Not fun. I used a product called Dovaworm (for pigeons usually) as it has a higher levamisole concentration (6.6%) over Nemarid (3.75%). I mixed it with some bloodworm, froze it, and treated the next day.
After a few days, did a big water change and a thorough bit of gravel vacuuming. Removed plants and decor and ran them under a shower for a while before replanting, to remove any worms that may have been in there.
Nemarid approach, as mentioned, suggests a few sustained doses with food. These days I tend to do that once every 6 months as a precaution, only using Dovaworm if I have a confirmed case. Fish don't enjoy it at all so try make sure all parameters are 100% before treatment.

Here are my bookmarked links during that time- hopefully they help out:

I'd get hold of Nemarid and dose as advised on the bottle as a starting point - I know people that have used it for ages and ages, but a higher concentration product would be first prize (4th link). Some people get them off of ebay.

I think my infection came in with some of those huge electric blue rams that we see locally from time to time (maybe same ones posted above). Also seems common among guppy breeders.
Good luck - with your tank scape still being fairly sparse at this stage, it actually makes life easier, dealing with it now.
