HiAll

As you know I breed quite a few Angels, nothing fancy justplain Scalare Angels, but, I am lucky to have grown this to the pointof getting it to pay some of the cost of keeping my fish. This is nota business, just a hobby that my Wife lets me play with as long as Ido not take to much money from the budget. Now this has been going onfor a while and I have sold privately and wholesale.

Yet someof the private buyers are coming back to complain. Yet when theybought, they just wanted a pair of fish for the tank and did notwant to breed. Yet today a different storey......

Soa quick note to those who are buying a pair to just put in the tankand not telling the breeder that they hope to breed at some stage.

Justto let you know that itdon't work like that, just cause you put a male and female together -does not mean they will breed. Yes some times we are lucky and theyaccept each other, other times not.

Bestis to take a batch of the same aged fish you would like to pair up tobreed and let them chose partners.

Onceyou see a pair forming and trust me you will see it. then take therest away. I am talking cichlids in particular here.

Takeaway before bloodshed. Then grow your pair and they will perform foryou when you have the parameters correct.

Sothink about the future, if you want to book a pair for just in thetank, then great. it is just a pair, but, please don't come back tothe breeder and complain 8 months down the line that nothing ishappening.......

    My2c worth.

    Thanks

Well people that think that way should maybe not be breeding in the first place.
They obviously did not do their homework.

I agree with what @howard is saying here, i am only taking a pair of Kribs for my Desk tank in my office. Dont intend to breed with them,

The guppies are keeping me busy as it is already.

    Hey Guys

This wasn't directed to those in the know. More newbies and fly by night specialists.

Sometimes you get lucky... Sometimes not:). I bought 7 Dantums from Charles. I ended up with 3 breeding pairs. I'm not usually this lucky. Bought a group of 5 Bolivian Rams... All males:(..
I can't say that I've ever seen the aggression you speak of. Not even at spawning time.

@Broder, you have never had aggression from the mated pair now wanting to breed? You have never had the pair become very territorial? Never had the breeding pair chase the heck out of other fish coming into that area?

Man you are very lucky, cant tell you how many fish i have almost lost because i was slow to take them out and leave the breeding pair.

Apologies @Broder I think we should take these comments to a new thread and discuss the "aggression/ non aggression". Lets leave this a a "buyer beware" thread. Thanks

Of course there is the usual marking of territory and displaying amongst each other. All I said was that I haven't seen the "bloodshed" and need to separate fish that you spoke about. Never even a nipped fun. There are many variables that affect a fishes temperament, so I didn't call you out as wrong sir.. Just saying that mayhem is not a given.

Cool.. Back on track. Just wondering why a male and female sometimes won't pair up? Could it be that the environment is wrong for them? Or, with all of the different strains and colour variations thrown together, they're actually looking for a partner that looks similar?
