I may be way over my head this time but i want to build my own 1000Litre fish tank,so the main questions are.

    Maybe smaller.

    1.How much would it cost?
    2.What meterials do i need?
3.what should the glass thickness be?
    add:what supports should i use?
4.what should i use as a bonding agent?
5.How will i transport such a huge tank after completion?
    6.Is it worth it?
    7.anything i didn't mention....?

You sure about those dimensions? That's a tank almost 5m long.

Hope you have a big wallet!

    2,5cm = 1 inch
    (1)Length: 188 inches = 4.7 m
    (2)Width : 44 inches = 1.1 m
    (3)Height: 32 inches = 0.8 m
    (4) water capacity: 280 GALLONS. = 1060 litres
For this size tank 12 to 15 mm glass.
Braced top and bottom and all around :)

I still think you are mad. Thats close to a ton of glass(If its purely glass) and close to 5 tons when full

Then you still have heating, filtration and pumping that needs to be done

PS those dimensions mean a 4000l tank, not 1000.

no, he is not mad, if he has the cash to afford it then go for it...its your choice, i saw a guy with a 17000l marine tank...is that mad? nah, not when it was probably one of the most beautiful things i have seen...although, dasher, i'm hoping you know what you are getting yourself into, a tank like that is a HUGE repsonsibilty...and people that attempt things on a scale of this magnitude have at least 2 decades of fish keeping experience behind them...just food for thought, use it or lose it, up to you...you were suppose to build a 20000l pond or tank as well?

Dasher search the web and take a look at other big installs like this and see how much time work and effort goes into it.

Well buddy, recently a 3mtrx0.8x0.8 15mm tank with sump and stand came to R30 000.00.without access.
For that tank of yours that you wanna build,if only 1 viewing side the other 3 sides with brick and cement the no prob, you have to enquire as to max length of glass available for thickness required, and please speak to a builder regarding specs you need

A lot more research and experience is requried on Dasher's part. His biggest tank is what 100l? He want's to go 40 times bigger. Besides the space issue, costs start increasing dramatically when you go that big. 10% water change is 400l more than most peoples tank capacity. Where do you drain that much water? Doing gravel vac/maintenance on a tank 1.1m deep? Ever tried something half that?

I love big tanks, chingchai on reefcentral is one of them. He equates his spending to the equivalent of a big house or a sports car.

I think it's easier to have only one piece of glass,i'm skilled in woodwork but know nothing about glass.
