    Hey guys 'n gals.

My boyfriend has just asked whether we can use bubble wrap instead of polystyrene under the tank to level it. He asked this because the guy who built our stand also keeps fish, and this is what he's used for his tank and sump. He's an engineer and it's his thing to build things that can withstand weight and know's how to level things.

I just don't want to go on this guys word, then the bubble wrap pops and we're sitting with a bad situation.

What are your thoughts on this?

Bubble wrap that wont pop with 100Kilos plus on it will be impressive i would stick to Styrofoam ,, and peaces of wood under the stands legs to get the stand and tank even.

Or a friend of mine that thought he knew better after never keeping a tank before that a thick towel will help with uneven surface, wasn't thick enough tank cracked.

Thanks guys, I feel the same way you do. I'm sceptical about this bubble wrap story. I'll tell G we must rather get styrofoam. Dunno why I called it polystyrene now.

    haha this is scary!
    have you seen it work?
I don't see it ending in anything but failure . won't the bubble wrap pop because of the uneven surface some bubbles will get more weight, then once it pops on one side all the bubbles will pop ? im not sure though.
stick with what you feel safe with. and bubble wrap is more expensive isn't it?

I haven't seen it, but the guy who built our stand apparently uses bubble wrap without any problems.

It worries me too though. I've very scared that all the bubbles decide to pop.

I'm going to stick to the styrofoam rather. Its safer.

    Hi You all

I wont do it either - but on discovery they show that bubble wrap is the best for parcels and stuff. what they did they put a plate in bubble wrap quite thick wrapped and kick it around jump on it and drive over it and the plate was fine, so i suppose there method in the madness, the whole idea is to wrap it very thick so the wrapping will be thicker than poly. I try it NO

we are moving in 4 days and my mum bought 400 rands worth of bubble wrap , wonder how that looks? like that's as big as a large carpet rolled up. I can't put my hands around it .
im going to experiment just for fun with some of it and let you know.

But Still stick with polystyrene !

The bottom of your tank is glass....
Glass resting on your table is a hard srface rubbing up against a hard surface. If just a tiny piece of gravel is under there, it'll crack the tank.
The styrofoam creates a cushioning effect.

    LOL Henk :D

I've put both under my tank. Bubble wrap at the bottom above the wood, and the foam between the wrap and glass. It's actually very secure. Was super impressed and nothing has popped yet.

If a tree fell in the jungle and there was nobody to see it, will it still make a noise?

Did you use the small bubble one?

LOL Vis, I hardly slept last night... kept thinking I'd hear a large *crack* then splash.

I'm not sure to be honest... I'll check and get back to you. I think the bubbles are approx. 1cm in diameter.
