Hi all! After mastering and unmastering (separating sexes and trying to keep up with the occasional sex change) breeding guppies I would like to try successfully breeding my minnows.

Every so often I find a little wriggler only to have it disappear while I scramble for breeding nets etc. so they seem to have the right conditions, but my setup is all wrong. I have six in a 30l by themselves, unheated, well planted with mini swords and some unmentionable convenient spawning plant, gravel is rounded and about 5mmx7mm.

I googled extensively but the opinions differ greatly as to how the setup works and whether to separate the parents and fry and what/when/how to feed the fry. Has anyone got any tips for this?

    Thanks in advance!

I have breed white clouds and end up with 4 fry.
First I put my pair in a tank with marbles.
Then I put ornaments, plants ect. in the tank.
They whas in the tank for about 2 weeks.
Then one morning I saw 4 little black fry swimming around in the tank.
I quickly removed the parents and feed my fry microworms.
They did grow very fast and now they are almost as big as the parents.

Dont worry about removing the parents, they dont eat the fry. Green water works best as the fry are extremely small and the critters in green water are basically the only things they can eat.
You can also try some ramshorn snails that promotes infusoria.

I had about 6 in a 50L for growing Java moss, sponge filter, heater at about 23 degrees celcius, it had some silica sand, some wood to give the water a brown tinge and java moss 2 thirds of the way up, i fed them flakes but the prof's GS1 will get them ready faster. I didnt remove the parents and had alot of fry grow to adulthood.
