I don't think you need to worry about hybrits. What I noticed in my 4ft with 3 types of Melanotaenia Rainbows in there is that when spawning occurs it is always the same type doing it together.

There is always the chance that if two different types spawn at the same time that there might be a small chance, due tot he current in the tank, that eggs might be cross fertelized.

I don't think there are many purists in SA regarding true rainbows. I can't even say with certainty that the ones I have are true.

it does make sense yes, i have also notice that my kutubu male will chase the boemsani male away from his spot at spawning time and vices versa..
you can see when they are flashing like crazy. it will be interesting to see the outcome of this batch, pity it will take so long to get to see color

    still worth it tho

Agree that there is no need to worry about hybrids. I thought @Ammar meant he didnt know which species he would end up with as he has different species in the same tank all spawning in the same mops

The only concern may be that one species fry grow faster than the other and they will prey on the smaller or slower growing species

Thats a good point, i will be looking out for that. I have enough tanks to start separating the big from small. But judging from the purchases u been making lately tanks will not be any issue ;) mighy have to send some your way ;)

so the first batch of fry are doing really well, soon I will have to move them from the 2 foot, will have to separate them from my shrimp as i do not want them to feast on my baby blue dreams.

I also got the most amazing male boesmani from @Gamma, has already spawned with on of my females and about 2 days ago i got swimmers from that mop. about 12 of them so far, hopefully more will appear. this was a mop that was in the main tank for about 5 minutes after a water change, i saw the boesmanies going at it and pulled it out hoping to save some eggs and I did.

so what I am looking for is a high quality/color female boesmani to put in with my male. if anyone is selling, let me know :)

hopefully, i am able to keep them alive till the fully grown. so far it hasnt been too much of a hassle looking after them, and they are getting super fat feeding 3 times a day on microworm.

that is exactly how I raise my cpds and sawbwas until they are about 1 cm big and can take more varied food. I am pretty sure they will be fine

I think this is a critical time in the growth and quality live food will hopefully lead to better growth and color?
not sure if my theory is right .

Perfectly right with your theory. Small live food for the first few weeks and they are through the hard part. I know that some people abroad actually let their fish spawn and fry hatch in green water. Food sorted for the first 2 weeks.

I noticed the survival rate between my 1st and 2nd hatches improve drasticly with being able to feed live foods from the start.

Agree with you guys. As soon as the fry can take a more varied diet you should introduce it but include as much live foods as possible. brine shrimp is the best live food (IMHO) but unfortunately the smaller fish species fry cant take it from the start.
