    hi there.if you wanna start a home breeding project,you must make sure you have a market for the babies,meaning,someone who will take it off your hands.some local pet shops will sell you whatever you need but will not support you with the sale of your fish.i really think this sucks!!!!!!!!!!!.you will not make money with your hobby.trust me.all you will do is make your hobby self sufficient in the sense that whatever money you make will fund your hobby.period.you will also get people who will haggle you for price but will spend almost 5 times that amount at a pet shop.trust me.if breeding fish is your hobby,keep it like that.what ever little money you make is a bonus.trust me.i have done it for almost 20 yrs.the only reward is the self satisfaction of the entire process

    Just do it. It's a learning curve like every new thing one tackles. So just go ahead and see how it pans out.

    @FabioCarvalho,
    I don't want to put a damper on your enthusiasm.But you will struggle to make money from breeding fish.
    At best you will break even.
    The fish shop will only give you a fraction of their value. They have to make a profit on them.
    And if you sell the fish privately, there are all sorts of logistic issues.
    I have tried it, and learnt this the hard way.

    Having said that.
    If you do want to give it a go, do it for the enjoyment and satisfaction.
    I would chose an unusual cichlid or maybe an unusual Plec.
    Maybe less volume on the youngsters (which is also easier on the breeder) but higher value.
