    Hi all.

I've glad to announce that my new imported A-Grade Show Quality Betta's aquired from Pet Stop thanks to @Moolis have spawned succesfully. I bred the Blue Fire Dragon HM male to the White HM female. Expected hatch date is 05 Feb 2012. I've also put my Black Copper HM male with the new Black HM female in a spawning tank today. The Black Copper male has already built a huge nest, will be releasing the female tomorrow. Will know if the Black HM female is fertile or infertile in a couple of days. Wish me luck. After these spawnings I will be breeding my Green BTF HM male to my White HM female in about 3-4 weeks.

@Vis, yes this is the actual fish as in the photo's with the exception of the Blue Fire Dragon HM, the White HM female and the Black HM female, my imports looks exactly like them, the only reason I decided to use those pics... they look a lot better than my pics. I ordered them from that pics, that was part of the original pic catalogue from Pet Stop. Here are the pics I took at home... see the diff...lol. Never the less... its the same fish that I promise you.

@solex69, thanks but I'm no guru. I just love Betta Splendens with a passion and I'm trying to put pure A-grade Show Quality Betta Splendens out there in South Africa. I'm sure other breeders are doing the same. I'm not a commercial breeder nor am I looking to get rich quick, not in this bussiness anyway, lucky if I break even. It's purely out off passion. I'm considering to breed Betta sp. Mahachai as well, I heard they are in perril to the point of extinction according to the IBC. I will try and get my hands on a pair or 3. Will talk to the Sponsor's, mayby one of them can help me.

Great stuff charles. Taking good pics of fish is an art on its own.

Why did you not get pairs so you can keep breeding the line?

P.S do you know if Moolis got a few extra ones in.

@Vis, the only female's available was the white HM and the Black Hm sadly. I've ask Moolis for specific female's like Dragons, Crowntails, Doubletails and more HM's, with pics of specific one's, colour and strains. I want to line breed definately... create my own line and not just be an affiliate of another breeder and continue his or her line, where is the sport and honour in that? I want to keep the line's pure. Until I get all my imported stock this can't happen so I experimenting a bit at the moment. No I don't know if @Moolis at Pet Stop got new stock in, I've asked Didi to let me know as soon as it does and on the next shipment ETA. Nothing as yet.

Thanks @Rooivlerkie, yes they are beautiful indeed, pitty I don't have a Dragon HM female yet, but soon hopefully. I've always wanted to breed pure black HM's, it's not to say that even if both parents are black, that you'll get black fry...???

Well good luck Charles, if you one day cross your black male to your white female I might come and have a look at the offspring.

I am very picky though :)

    Keep the updates comming.

    Hi there.

My Black Copper HM male & Black HM female has spawned today and there are a lot of eggs!!! Estimated birth date is the 8th Feb 2012. The Blue Fire Dragon HM male X White HM female fry are now free swimming at day 2. Removed the male today. Now I play Daddy and the work starts!! I will post some pics later this week, hopefully by Wednessday as the schools and my children keeps me very busy, apparently Daddy has no social life. lol.

@Vis, yes I am. Firstly the finnage is very important - strong dorsal fin that covers at least 2/3rd of the body of which it must point slightly forward towards the head, secondly a strong cadual fin with very good ray branching with at least 8 branches prefere 12 to 16 with a perfect 180* spread or 190-210* (OHM), thirdly a solid anal fin that starts from the tip of the cadual base through to the anus. All these finnage should be aligned so that you can draw a perfect (near perfect) circle around it. You will see that most commonly the anal fin is much longer than the cadual fin which is not desirable. So finnage is comes first and then colouration and markings. There are so many varieties available and 90% of them looks stunning. You get your ordinary basic lot, and then you get better ones and then... then you get your show stoppers and that's what I'm after. Now I know this will take a lot of years hard work and financing, but I know what I want and I will do my utmost best to achieve just that. I expect failure's, it's part and parcel of breeding, but it will not stop me from breeding quality premium show quality betta's. I'm not after quantity but quality. I'm not one for worldly material things but I believe that if you do something, do it right and go for gold, nothing less, no gray areas, white is white & black is black. I don't do things have baked. Yes sure in the beginning when you start out, still very inexperienced and only playing around with some ideas, but as time goes on and the gogga got you.... then you tend to get things right and organised. It cost's just as much raising muts than it is raising stunning spawns. Why then settle for less? So yes, colour, finnage and combination's are all important, all depends on what you want and what is the need and flavour of the day. Regards. Charles

Regarding Betta`s I know nada, ziltch, niks I do admire their beauty though.
Your enthusiasm and set goals on what you wanna achieve shows that you are gonna make a success of this.

@Rooivlerkie, thanks. It would not be possible without the help and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.

@tracyp, drool, drool you say... hahaha... Don't worry we'll work something out in a couple of months, the Black Copper HM male X Black HM female fry started hatching earlier tonight, so yet another succesful spawn!!!! I'm so excited to see how they turn out!

@Reyno Gower, thanks for the vote of confidence. It's highly appreciated.

@gdt78, currently only 4 spawning tanks due to space restrictions, I'm breeding them in my living room so I had to move out some of my furniture for space and shelfs for jarring, and I'm almost out of space again...lol. My wife is the best! Will add some more grow out tanks later, still have some time left for those as my other grow out tanks are fully stocked with betta fry. I'm planning more over the next few months but this will all depend on the amount of imported A grade show quality breeding stock. It's not cheap raising these spawns so I'm not going to overburden myself and sit with huge spawns I must feed or cull at the end of the day. I'll keep only 4-8 sibling pairs max of each spawn to continue line breeding.
