Breeding Gourami

Hi Guys,

I have a secret only people in this forum will ever know, I seriously have a problem with the tricogaster genus of fish. Its like some type of magic, I love these fish a lot!

So I did what any sane person would do and procured an array of 6 1.5ft tanks (breeding various gouramis) and a 3ft to hold the rents once they are done. (planted and planing to add guppy grass)

Now someone on this forum should be able to give me advice on how to achieve this. Any advice would be appreciated, note i am in no hurry, I want to do this right, however the purchase of the tanks might of been a bit premature, the seller a friend of mine sold them to me at R80 a tank, if you live in Durban and need quality tanks, let me know, he also did my 4ft tank with black silicon 8mm glass braced for R1400.

Plants I procured from Amatikulu and fish from a friend (genetics are fair)

Depends which species you want to breed. I have tried (and failed) at both chocolate and licorice gouramis. Haven't tried any others. Just make sure you have a food to feed tiny fry as well as an outlet for the fry as you dont want to be sitting with 100 fish and nowhere to house them.

Would 1 and a half ft tanks work? with water sprite at the top, I did order a box of guppy grass

That should work. These are bubble nesters so all you really need is a pair per tank and wait for them to spawn. From there on I am not too clear on the details but I am sure Google will provide the answers. Probably remove the female and once fry go free swimming remove the male (if they are the same as Bettas)
