    Hi everyone!
I jus got my first 3ft (100l) marine fish tank and am getting started up. My boss has been in it a while and gives me some great advice.

I want to buy an external canister filter but cant afford a new tetratec... I have been offered a second hand "Bowini" external canister filter, does anyone know of this brand and whether its any good? :wondering:

    cheers

Bowini? Never heard of the brand...

My advice would be an Eheim. Look at the Classic series.

Ofcourse. I have been using a bowini filter (1200lt/hr) for quite some time now. Its excellent and does the job.

unfortunately canister filters dont work so well on marine systems, i would suggest you visit the sister site, www.marineaquariumsa.com , before you spend any more money on anything !

Agree, most marine tank uses a sump with refugiums.

I've never heard of this brand and would also recommend the eheim filters...

check out www.marineaquariumsa.com for lots of info there

lots of people will tell you not to use a cannister filter on a marine setup but thats not neccessarily the best advise because the filtration in a marine setup depends on various factors especially the use of live rock, how many fish and inverts and if setup correctly you might not even need a skimmer...

I suggest you do plenty research before making any purchases!

It works like a bomb. A new one would cost you about R650.
If you going for a second hand filter, you better nake sure motor, pump and canister is in working order and no leaks. Remember there are no guarantees on second hand filters.
