So I was reading about Rainbows the other day and came across this beauty "Blue Eyes" who looks like he would be perfect for a Planted Tank.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudomugilidae

Anyone ever seen or experienced this fish?

Oh dear, you just missed them at @Moolis! (Pseudomugil gertrudae). I got a school of 7 and I love them. They are in a planted tank and seem to really enjoy it. Their displays are mindblowing. I think they look like creatures out of Avatar. They are also very greedy and eat well. Hopefully they'll be available again because they sold out really quickly. At the moment they have Threadfin rainbows in, seem to be all males sadly though, but awesome in very much the same way.

BarryM and some others also got some of the gertrudae, look for the thread about them in the Pet Stop sponsor board, and maybe check the board every now and again to see when they get some in again. There are a couple of people from Jo'burg who come through to get fish from them, you could share lifts or something.

    Haha,

I see the interest in these little beauts is catching the attention of others. I have been keeping and breeding them for years now after an australian friend introduced them to me. I was the first to keep threadfins rainbows in SA which should actually also be included in this group.

I keep Pseudomugul gertrudae and Pseudomugil signifer as well as Popondetta furcata, this is actually not a Pseudomugil and it definitely needs different treatment. Remember that there are also three variants of Pseudomugil gertrudae, ones with grey pectoral fins, ones with red pectoral fins and ones with yellow pectoral fins. It is ones with the yellow fins that normally are imported here, but they are very lively, very pretty, have a lovely behavious, not aggressive, don't grow large, breed quite easily, so what more do you want.

However there is a new one that has just hit Europe which I saw when I was there Pseudomugil sp Red Neon or they also call it Pseudomugil paskai, Red Neon, although the fundis have all decided it is not Pseudomugil paskai but a separate species. I will let you drool with a pic below..... they are about 2.5 - 3 cm long.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

EINA PYN!!!! But sure is worth it, did you import them Prof?? So tempting, think I might consider it very badly, the addiction, it is never going to stop and no rehab for this addiction, it is just getting worse each time I see something like this.

In Germany they call it the Rossmassler syndrome. The reason for this is that the first ever aquarium club in Germany was formed in Berlin between 1910 and 1920 and was called the Rossmassler club. Well how the syndrome develops is that when you have one tank, that leads to a second tank and that to the third and the fourth with more and more fishes. I am very limited in my ability to count tanks and fishes so I have given up..... it would be bad for my health....

@wsteene this topic header is under "blue eye"
do you think when swopping your wife and kid (how is she??)
would help? you might end up on a topic starter as Blue/black eye - by wife.
but never the less, there are more and more rainbows that are rare on the market
pitty that we are overstocked on the "norm species"
