who here watches their movies on blu-ray? i enjoy chilling and watching a good movie at home, i see that blu ray players are going for some decent prices now and im wondering how nice is it really? how much better is it than ol dvd? is it really worth it?
I think that you only get the real effect of the Blu-ray if you have an HD TV to watch it on... (I think)
If you a full HD TV it is worth it to go for blu ray. The differance we saw from Video's to DVD's is the same between DVD and blu-ray
You will even see a huge difference while watching a normal DVD on a Blu Ray player and HD TV. If you are in the market to buy a setup keep the following in mind. - Bigger screen doesnt mean better. A slightly smaller screen might have better colour reproduction thus giving a better picture. - Blu Ray players (and DVD players for that matter) mostly use the same internal parts so buying expensive brand A over cheaper brand B is not always the best idea since mechanically they could be virtually the same. - Go read the product review forums to see which make/model would suit you best. It can be quite daunting stepping into a store and seeing the vast array of options available - I cant stress this enough! - Avoid "HD Ready" - Get yourself a good sound system to go along with your swanky new TV and player. You wont regret it. HTH

Simply put, HD ready only has a maximum resolution of 720p. An HD TV has a resolution of 1080p. Which is MUCH better than HD ready. The difference between Blu-ray and standard DVD is huge... It's the same as the difference between VHS and DVD... It's awesome.
Yes bigger is not better, it depends on the size of your viewing lounge so the further u sit from the tv the better it is for your brain to capture everything, if you sit to close you wont get that whole experience. Then look @ the contrast ratio, its the dif between the blackest black and whitest white, this shoots the price of most led or lcd's. Then hd ready is old school, you want full hd, led as pricing have come down dramaticly. In my experience if you want to enjoy blue ray then watch movies like transformers, this movie wad made for blue ray, esspecialy number 2, then lets not 4get x men. So yes prices of blue ray have drpod so much, and if you have a full hd tv, you want a blue ray and most def an hd pvr.
A full HD tv is a must when you go blu-ray. I've got blu-ray and when some friens come around they cannot believe the quality. The quality is amazing and my blu-ray is even better than the standard full HD as I've got a Hi-Fi with audio and video processors to clean the signal what you loose in the cable.
If you can stay with the same brand ... this works for my other 1/4, she loves sony so all her stuff is sony also means that different devices understand each others remotes to some degree. yeap - it seems that the upscaler in the blu-ray are better than what you would get in the TV's engine. Also depending on the age of your HD TV the player might add some new functionality that the TV might not have. Be it Internet readiness, more media support on USB or HDD etc.
Oh my word... This is all too much technology advancements for me. Up until 4 months ago i was still watching tv with bunny ears

Ah i already have a tv, was just looking to get a blu ray player, its an LED tv but just checked it out properly, and its HD ready and not FULL HD, and i definitely can not afford to go out and buy another tv now, so perhaps i should forget about the blu ray until i do have a full hd tv? thanks for all the info guys, really appreciate it
A Bluray player will still look awesome on an hd ready tv. Does your tv have HDMI inputs? If yes, then you might as well take the plunge.
sharp guys, @Sean J - yes the tv has HDMI inputs @Lowflyer - shot dude, i did go buy one this past weekend, same brand as the tv, IT IS TOTALLY AWESOME, I only took 2 moves with it, HULK and XMEN, it is really really nice. Thank you guys for all the advice, im glad i went to get it.
