    Help. My apple snail is super bloated. Water conditions has not changed much. He was fine yesterday morning (I came home late from work last night so didn't look at the ta K then)
    Got ready for weekly water change (10-15%) temp is 28°C

    Snail is 3 years old in same tank.

    Squirted a yellow substance when placed in bucket. He/she is still alive and reacts to touch.

    No3 = 0
    No2 = 0
    Gh =16°d (has always been high)
    Kh = 3°d
    Ph =6.4 (may be lower - limit of test)
    CL2 = 0 (been usingng captured rain water for a year now)

    Other snail is fine, fish and amanos are fine (Amano shrimp added 3 weeks ago)

    Also it is a 95l fluval accent, this is Def not a tank crash as these parameters have been stable since September for the past (I did however move in January and did a 80% water change in the process) I dose scape complete for the plants and Prime during water changes. Otherwise I feed a variety of algue flakes, granules and flaked food, I also feed mosquitoe larvea once a week (sometimes twice)

    Most of the shrimp have successfully molted. I would expect problems with them before the established snails.

    I did notice a planaria last week and assumed over feeding so I did cut back a little on the amount of wafers.

    Please help

    All i feel like I can do now is change out the water in the bucket every now and then (he keeps squirting the yellow fluid, looks exactly like pee)

    The bubble looks smaller (he is not fully submerged in water, to help with breathing) [IMG]

    Should I puncture the sack and hope he heels? Or is that a bad idea?

    It's a bacterial infection, one of my Zebra Nerite snails had the exact same problem. Kept him in isolation but not much I could do died a few days later. The web is filled with the same type of examples but no clear cause or cure.

    Oh I've seen the web posts, this makes me so sad. I'm hoping someone here had some hidden secret that worked.
    I wish I could help.

    Since there is no known cure I've decided to make a tiny puncture hole (it is slowly deflating) there seems to be confusion whether or not the boated parts are lung cavaties or stomach. So if lung that meens he can't get fully submerged again, so I'll keep him semi submerged until he seems OK.

    I really hopes this helps... [IMG]

    The stretching may have permanently damaged the tissue, which may make the "surgery" obsolete. Notice the flappy skin like membrane that has no deflated is folded and resting over him. Will keep updating. Maybe someone can learn from this (even if it is what not to do). :'([IMG]

    Some people suggest it might be a diet issue causing the problem. What have you been feeding him?

    Algue flakes, mostly. But he does have access to the flakes from the rasboras as well. Buy wafers in small quantities in order to be able to reqularly swap them out. If it is dietary that means my other snail may also be at risk. I hope that's not the case. I would hate to loose both.

    You can feed them a died of semi cocked veggies as well as things like cucumber, broccoli, and carrots. That what I feed my snails.

    I will add some peas (I used to feed blanched crushed peas) but due to me moving I ran out and have not re-supplied. I suppose I should for the sake of the other snail. I have added a bag of Rooibos tea (my go to guard for bacteria) just incase. I may not be able to help this guy but the other one seems 100% and I'd like to keep it that way.

    I would also regularly add new water and swap out the old. It might help speed up the healing process.

    Yup doing that. That's my only way of keeping the temperature somewhat constant sins I don't own a norther tank or heater. (gave all my extras away 2 weeks ago!) (recovering mts addict)

    I might need to get a bucket and heater setup if this is going to last longer than 1 day

    He still has a small bubble (that won't deflate - I'm not adding another hole) I think my original hole has now been retracted back into the shell and closed up the excess tissue has shrunk back as well witch is a very good sign. [IMG]

    This is one of the weardes threads in a long time. I have no idea what is wrong with your snail or how to treat it. If I was in the shop I would have sold you a tank, pump and heater. But I'm not.

    Just float the tub, the snail is in, in your current aquarium. Temp should stay constant that way. Daily partial wc can just be good for the healing prosess

    Sorry to say but he has passed.

    I tried what I could. Will have to focus on the rest of the tank and will closely monitor them.

    I don't think that my tank has an issue though, because I have 3 fresh Amano shrimp molts. And after a count (I only have 6) they are all alive and well showing no signs of stress.

    The other snail is doing fine (it has always been less active than the one that died but shows no behavioral signs of stress And is his same old self.) nevertheless I have done a good 25% water change (don't want to over do it for shrimp's sake)

    Will monitor.
