Well, I don't have a recent pricelist, but Prof B used to sell black - at a very good price too.

I'm no diy expert, but I stick to marine silicone - I've heard that some plumbing kinds have additives that aren't suitable... only hearsay mind! HTH

Normal types have a anti fungicide in so stay well clear

If you use the correct black, you need to work neat!!! much more messy and difficult to clean compared to Aquarium silicon.

If you were in Pta. you could have come to use for tubes :)

@wrenchy as far as I know, the only black silicone we get in pe is the one the guys in the motor industry sell. will check tomorrow what additives are in it

@wrenchy i just checked 2 different makes now, weirdly enough, neither of them show what its made of. all it says is acetic acid released during curing on the one and the other says no acetic acid released

wow thanks @Lowflyer and @fiza really going outta your way to help my cause !! However i have managed to get access acetic cure selants - aqua silicone, it comes in black and clear!!

Apparently black is very messy and this being my first tank im building myself i have grown weary to use the black now!! So big decisions lie ahead, I do really prefer the black finish, i just dont think i would prefer it if its not neat though!

Yeah @wrenchy it is lank messy. Clear silicone is very easy to clean up and to make look neat :) My father used to build tanks and helped me to build my cube. It's not difficult :) Good luck with the project!

Just wanted to mention on this old thread WRT corners etc that you can buy these packs that have little plastic cards in them which are used for shaping the sealant in corners and making jobs neat.
Mostly used for the DIY guy resealing his bath etc.

I recall seeing them advertised by glomail or the like.

Once you have run a bead of silicon you then use one of these cards (with the right edge shape you want) to give you a good finish in the corners by running it along the bead.
Basically it is a plastic square with the corners cut off at various angles to allow the angle of silicone you want and the waste is scrapped off as you drag it along.

This aids also in getting rid of air bubbles in the bead. It works much like running your finger along the bead only much cleaner and more professional.

Of course using tape also works, just runa length of tape down the sides of the corner and apply silicone. Then use your finger to press it in and smooth it out. Once you're happy you remove the tape and a nice looking edge appears if you taped straight.

As a matter of interest, How did the tank turn out wrenchy?

I also wanted to go the black silicone route, but could not find the "marine" black. I tried the black "Bostik Car" version, as it appear to not have any anti-fungal additive listed on the pack.

I was very careful to not get silicone al over the glass - I used on of those Verimark silicone applicator tools to get a good finish and remove unwanted silicone. I did not put fish into the tank for the first month to make sure any chemicals had leached out. Tanks was setup as a planted tank and after a month a few neons were added. No problems to report.

Just checked the Bostik website for the product details and it states the product contains fungicide and is therefore not suitable for fish tanks.

I have not noticed any negative effects - yet! I've even had some algae growing on the silicone.
