I just bought a BGK today and it lies on his side on the botom of my tank in his cave.
Is this normal or is there something wrong with him.

It is pretty normal, I have one and it only comes out when it is dark so I have a blue light to see him now. During the day he hides behind plants and rocks.

BGKs normally lie on their sides when resting anyway, don't worry about it.

I can speak from some experience:

They take a little while to settle in. But if you do not see the BGK exploring the tank during low light then you know there is a problem. They are very curious. They learn very quickly to take food from your hands. This is pretty cool initially, until you have to start cleaning the tank and have to put up with constant nibbling at your fingers. But perhaps you'll enjoy that :p

Mine was so tame it came out during the day all the time. I had to give it away as it just became too big too quickly. Every morning I discovered a few less tetras...

Feed the BGK as soon as you turn out the lights, or early in the morning before they come on. Obviously it would help you if you have a blue moonlight for you to see what is going on, but they don't need to see the food. In fact, they can see very little. They use electric sensors to navigate. Later on you can try different times of the day when the fish is more comfortable.

They are stricly carnivorous (spelling?). Bloodworm is not nutritious. Supplement this with frozen brine shrimp, white worm (which is better than bloodworm in terms of nutrition) and dried meaty foods. Mine eventually took to eating shrimp pellets. I fed these to my clown loaches and eventually the BGK caught on to the fact that these pellets are safe to consume.

You can also feed it some diced mussels. But you got to use the frozen ones and not those in tins

mine, which is pretty large, almost 20-25cm long, eats all sorts, bloodworms, flake food, pellets....all sorts! Mine is also tame, and eats from my hand.
