Well, I had lots of BBA on some of my Mopani wood that was getting out of hand, so I removed the wood to clean it, but had to do other things, so never quite got to it. I was looking at the wood yesterday, and the BBA has all dried out and turned whitish cream coloured. The wood has been outside in the rain and sun for the past three weeks! It is bone dry now (at least on the outside). What I want to know is, will this spring back into life once I put it back in a tank, or is it dead, dead and well and truly dead? I also had another piece that with some on, and whilst that one is also bone dry, the dry algea is blackish gray! Will this also be dead? An help and info will be appreciated! Cheers! Big G!

I don't think anybody knows so I think the best will be to put the pieces back into the tank and see what happens..

If its been outside for 3 weeks and its still alive it is not BBA...well, not the BBA from this planet!

If you still unsure, stick the wood in a bleach solution for 24 hours. Mix 1:20 bleach and water. Then rinse thoroughly in water with 3x normal dechlor amount for 24 hours and then let it dry out in the sun again completely until you smell no more bleach. If it is still not dead, its not from this planet...

Even if it's no longer on the wood, it will still be in the tank, algae usually propogates with spores. Best thing to do is get a fist that will eat it. And the only thing that can do that is a true Siamese Algae Eater.

Cheers guys! Not so worried about the tank! Will be totally draining it soon, just wanted to be sure the stuff on the wood won't grow when I put it back in water again! Cheers! Big G!

Flourish Excel at 2x normal dosage applied with a syringe directly on the algae will clear it up. Stop the circulation for about 15 minutes while doing this. In the long run, either increase CO2 or decrease the light levels.

Be careful with Flourish. An overdose can kill your fish.
