hi guys i just watched a few minutes ago my black angels spawn the ones i got from @Dirk Bellstedt (thanks prof
) i got to see the whole spawning thing, they are my favourites. i was hoping to breed them as soon as my exams were over next week in a separate tank but they decided to do their own thing.i dont think they will survive in the community tank and im sure they will get eaten by the ansestrus during the night.im wondering what to do.

Don't worry about it, Like Dirk told me once before "now that they have started it happens every 21 days so relax", get your exams behind you then put them in there own tank it will happen again before you know it and then again after that and then you will be wondering what to do with all the fry that you got and were to put them and then they will do it again. Yes I have run out of tank space. After the 4th spawning. If you were wondering.

Don't feel bad think of it as your ansestrus is getting a good meal tonight and how happy he is going to be.

But you will also be surprised on how aggressive you angels can be when defending there nest. what you can do if you like is set up a night light for them so they can see whats happening and defend the eggs. You just need a desk lamp and bounce the light off the wall so that its not to bright for the rest of the fish.

    Hi Murray,

If you leave a light on in the room in which you have the tank, they will probably be able to chase away the Ancistrus, so I can perhaps suggest that, a small bedside light next to the tank would also do just fine.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

That reminds me. I bought some black angels a few months ago from a lps. I want to post some pictures for @Dirk Bellstedt to comment on their quality. They probably not the "real deal" but I fell in love with them the moment I saw them.

Yes I agree, pictures do not do these guys any justice. The camera just cannot get them in their true glory. Thats one of the reasons why I havent posted pics yet is because I cant get decent pics. Mine seem to have a very very slight dark brown undertone to them, but Im also not 100% convinced of this either... it may be the 5500K globe that is slightly orange, thus giving them that appearance.

They are looking very nice Murray,

I must try to take some pics of their parents and some of their brothers and sisters. The genetics of these are quite simple to understand, but I must show you some pics to illustrate what I mean so that will have to wait a few days.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk

    @firemanmuzz
quite the collection you have going there!
Just do what you need to for your successful exams looming ahead.
The fish will fall into place, so you mustn't worry about that.

Dirk and jason are only telling you what works...so do it!!
There's nothing to lose, this is a trial spawn, there'll be PLENTY more to engage your attention

I have also rekindled my Angel passion ALL over again.
About a week ago, I began selecting from European Angels a few strains for this
I didn't ever LOSE the Angel "bug", just haven't bred any for about 2 years.
My own Black Angel, is halfway through quarantine, now to find him a mate.
All my others are half his size!!

Good luck with your exams, and fish, and all, and all...:blink1:

    Well done!

I have found the black Angels more difficult to keep than some of the other varieties.
They seem much more suspetable to any disease.

Sorry to hear about the eggs being eaten, but I look forward to hearing more from you regarding these stunning fish in the very near future...

@firemanmuzz, condolences on the eggs being lost, is this the first batch they have had?
I seem to say this a lot, it is normal for first time parents to eat the eggs...
Give them time she will lay eggs again in a couple weeks time again and might still eat them, angels make really good parents when they get over this egg eating thing.

There is a member on the forum who was breeding them like wild fire, they only time he moved them was when they were a little older as it made feeding them much easier...
Removing the eggs and hatching them that way is much more difficult than it sounds.

@Lizid yes it was their first batch.these are originally the profs strain and im not sure how he handels the parents, but judging by their behavior they should be ok in a seperate tank which i will organise next week some time.
