Has anyone ever tried using these stone heel scrubbers as a mechanical filtration. I doubt if they have any chemicals in them they loof very porous and the shape shoul make it for easy use in some filters. Can any of the more experienced fish keeper add light to this subject
    Regards

I did hear of it and it worked well if its the real natural one, i know theres fake ones that i presume will have chemicals in.

Some forums claim seachem matrix and ADA use pomice stone as a media so if broken in pieces could be a cheap alternative as an expensive product

pumice stone is volcanic rock afaik so it should be just fine for filter media. I doubt it's cheaper per KG than just buying ceramic though.

I have never used pumice stone but have read up on some reviews on it and discussions on Stingray forums

And i believe that yes it can be used if its the real pumice stone
They do say that not all pumice stone has the same amount/grade of porosity and some stones resemble pumice but are not the real stuff
They also caution against chemicals that are often sprayed on it

All in all the general feel i got was that the little bit of saving is not worth the risk so i have never used it as i cant afford to take that chance

As i said, this is purely from my research into it and not personal experience
