@Zoom it is a biological start and enhancer... I use it to start my filters but I would not suggest it to shorten your cycling time.
I also use half the recommended dosage at every other water change... Works well, @azurekoi mentioned once to me at Pet Stop that it was good...

Bio Vital(Manufactured by Sandton Aquatic Centre) is a mix of Bacteria,Montmorelinite and a bit of crushed Zeolite powder.... Great for older tanks as well - breaks down solid organic waste real well. 2 forms of product - small tin for aquariums and 2kg tub for Koi ponds...

It is rather good bang for your buck...even if the bacterial strains are all "bacillus" based(all dry packaged bio boost products are...) - We used this product a few years ago to revitalize Lonehill dam(the one below the Koppie) - this was an aquatic system so close to complete collapse,it's just not funny...oxygen readings where almost non - existent.... 3 days later - problem fixed!

If you guys are worried about the murkiness - mix correct amount of Bio Vital in 1 litre Coke bottle.... shake.... leave to settle for an hour or so.... pour the clean water (with all the bacteria and minerals from the montmorelinite) in to tank slowly, leaving "mud" layer behind....

Just remember to not add salt to tanks with bio vital.

@Vis. If it had salt in before ?
And if your one show guppy tails was nipped by a flippen puffer crappy fish and you put salt in your little nano does this negate the bio vital ?

The zeolite romoves ammonia from the water. If you add salt it removes all the ammonia from the zeolite and back into your tank.

Slight misconception @Vis - yes, zeolite will rerelease Ammonia that it has absorbed from it's ion exchange properties.... but to do this your salt concentration will need to be at a level that no fish(except maybe high end Brackish species) will be able to survive in.... If this would be a problem - do you guys think Reef Keepers would pour it in their tanks? These guys RAVE about it's sludge bustin power...

Anyways - if you do my "Coke Bottle trick" - no Zeolite enters your tank anyway.... + how much ammonia does a teaspoonfull of Biovital in 100 liters really absorb...

Bio Vital is a great, cheap product - it has it's drawbacks yes (monoculture of bacteria being one of them) - but I worked hard on developing this product many years ago - it will allways have a special place in my heart and in my aquariums.....

I my industry things get very hectic and I find that if I neglect a water change or two, once I do a WC and use the bio vital my fish look much much happier.

I do have a question about it though how does it effect ferts?

no effect on Ferts @Lizid...the (Small) amount of Zeolite it does contain will only absorb Ammonia in its raw molecular state - Nitrogenous fertilizers does not make use of the "raw" ammonia molecule, but compounds of it - they don't want to kill your fishies now do they?

I have not seen those around. Is it a Boksburg/Benoni/Brakpan thing again?

Does Bio Vital have a homepage?

What exactly do you mean by this? Will it break down all the muck accumulating in the substrate to a form where it dissolve into the water and can be taken out by the bio filter? I find that I am not vacuuming my substrate too well and suspect it is a problem waiting.
