    Hi Gents

Is there a difference between the two? Pond and Aquarium.....

I've been using the pond one in my tank for a while now.... Will it be harmfull to my fish?

The reason I bought the pond was because of the volumne of my tank. The Aquarium size tub doesn't last very long.
I also noticed the spoon size in the Pond bucket is the same as the Aquarium tub.... is that normal?
The directions of use differ irrc, was a bit worried putting only 2 spoons into my current tank from the Pond bucket, when iirc I used to put about 5 spoons of the Aquarium for my previous smaller liter capacity tank.

Wether it's safe to use I'm not entirely sure. Never used Bio Vital before. The Pond medicines, conditioners etc are usually more consentrated then tank meds. This is the reason why you have the same spoon but less usage with the pond product.

I have used the Loolilocks Coy parastite meds for white spot in my tanks. And it worked great without any issues what so ever. Not saying this is the correct way. I would suggest you strictly adhere to the dosage directions. Even using less dosage infact.

Thanks Ammar, in the old tank about 6 months, and now about 2 months in the new tank.

The little jar wouldn't last very long in the new tank. Which is why I "assumed" the big jar is the same. But looking on the label showed me "Pond" vs "Aquarium".
I also noticed the directions being different, like SlowMoo says, its probably a stronger mix.

I've used this stuff for quite a while now, and works very well.

Im just worried if there is anything else different between the Aquarium and Pond mix.....

Can someone please enlighten the auntie in the country? :smile1: Why are you guys using this with every water change? I don't know the product, so please excuse the blonde ??? Does it have ingredients other than the bio-boosters? Why would you need to bio-boost every week?

hallo @tracyp its basically instant bacteria the way i understand it, i read somewhere that test run on a tank using bio vital reduced cycling time drastically. the container advises 1 spoon per 100L on every water change. i have been using it for about 3 months and my tank is happy, not sure if it has anything to do with it, some argue that bacteria dies when it has no oxygen so how can you have bacteria in a can... thats about as much as i know about this product. your water goes murky for about 2 hours depending on you filter i guess and then clears up nicely

Hey, @PopGun, thanks for the link - now I remember that thread! But I STILL don't understand the need to use it every week? You're not cycling a tank afresh each and every week? I get that it is a good sludge-buster so that an occasional application to keep things sparkly I understand, sure.

Oh yeah, and @Ammar - if the murkiness bothers you, then check that link... Old Azure gives a good cheat for that.

All that said, I am aware that many of the bacteria-in-a-bottle products suggest dosing every week... but is that not just a sales gimmick? I can say for certain that I don't dose my tanks with bacteria boosters on a weekly basis and that my tanks are as healthy as can be. So I'm guessing its a rather-safe-than-sorry situation?

    For me, from that link

"Bio Vital(Manufactured by Sandton Aquatic Centre) is a mix of Bacteria,Montmorelinite and a bit of crushed Zeolite powder.... Great for older tanks as well - breaks down solid organic waste real well. 2 forms of product - small tin for aquariums and 2kg tub for Koi ponds... "

The key words here..... Solves a ton of problems in a tank

That's definitely my take on it. I have only ever used these type of products when starting a new tank.

I use it every time I do a water change on my tanks or if I find any sort of water problems, I find the stuff works a charm.

I use it every water change seems to be working. Water looks good fish and plants seem to be happy and water parameters OK according to Tetra stix.
Also price better than similar products (especially at recent half price sale)
