If you don't mind me asking. Where did you get the canisters? I also live in bloemfontein and have been thinking of using sodastream for CO2

    Hey Ruan
I use CO2 fire extinguishers. I just take them to firequip so they can change the top to a screw so that it can fit the regulator

So with my substrate, I also recieved my test kits.
Here are my tap water parameters:

    PH 7.75
    KH 5
    GH 92PPM

    Any alarms?

Nope, although I expect your pH will lower in time with the aquasoil, which is cool. Mine is even higher out the tap.

    Day 2
Doing a daily 70% water change
Dosing seachem excell and dechlorinator as per bottle instructions. No ferts yet.
    CO2 running at 4bps

    Did my first water test:
    NH3: 0,5 ppm
    PH: 7
    KH: 3

I didn’t test test for nitrites and nitrates yet.

Biofilm is starting to form on the wood.

    Day 5:

I see alot of growth on the wood....
I initially thought it was biofilm, but was told on another group it might be staghorn algae.
Only on wood and not on plants
Please let me know what you think.

    Still doing daily waterchanges
    And dosing seachem excel

On another note, the plant growth can clearly be seen after just 5 days. Especially on the rotalas and montes, although I can also see some small leaves on the pinnatifidas

That looks like biofilm to me, it looks like the woods rotting before it gets accustomed to being submerged but I can be wrong
