This problem has been going into its second year now.... Anybody in the Montana or Pretoria East area(aka, you get your water from Roodeplaat dam) should take note and beware.... Let your water stand for at least 48 hours with a good dose of antichlor and some airation.... Its a total bitch, but I lost a lot of my koi to this last year - @Slojo has warned you...take heed...!

    From Wikipedia:

Removing chloramine from waterChloramine can be removed from tap water by treatment with superchlorination (10 ppm or more of free chlorine, such as from a dose of sodium hypochlorite bleach or pool sanitizer) while maintaining a pH of about 7 (such as from a dose of hydrochloric acid). Hypochlorous acid from the free chlorine strips the ammonia from the chloramine, and the ammonia outgasses from the surface of the bulk water. This process takes about 24 hours for normal tap water concentrations of a few ppm of chloramine. Residual free chlorine can then be removed by exposure to bright sunlight for about 4 hours.

I usually let my water stand for a week in the sun before adding any to my tanks. I know this helps for the chlorine, but for chloramine?

Would doubling the dechlor (I use Prime) be okay? Don't want to save my fish from chloramine poisoning by poisoning them with dechlor.

Lost quite a few fish last year too.
