This weekend I'd like to create a whole new habitat for Simon as his tank was ripped apart and never really put back together again.

The tank is a 2ft, 87l (I think) and currently it houses the betta and a few guppies. The guppies are all going this weekend, and I feel that the tank is a bit too big just for the one fish.

I would like to keep a female in the tank with him, but I'm not sure how this will go down. Will either of them try kill each other?

I've seen a few tanks on some of the overseas forums where guys have a female and male in the tank together without any problems. What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

If the female isn't a suitable tank mate, should I rather get some tetras to fill the void or maybe just female betta's, then put Simon in the 3ft community tank?

    Hey Linxie!!

I would maybe put 3 females in with him, and that way it should spread the aggression? The only thing with that is that sometimes the females can be aggro to each other!!

If you decide to go for just one female, add her to the tank before the Male, and this should help reduce issues, but I would still be weary!

    Regards
    Big G!

    Hi Linxie

I have a male betta and 5 females in my tank.... and they are perfectly fine together. If you have only one female, the male will want to try and breed, and might tire her out. With 5 my male doesn't know which one to breed with, and doesn't get anywhere with either one of them.

The females are actually beautiful fish for any addition to a tank. I sometimes thing my Female is prettier than the male!

Oh thanks so much for the info guys! There's light at the end of the tunnel and I'm loving it :D

    Now to find some females.

How many would you recommend for my little 87l? 3 you say Big G?
It's going to be medium to heavily planted with lots of hiding spaces. The tank is 600l x 350w x 450h (if I'm not mistaken)

You could put more than 3 in the linxie.
Get hold of Solex 69... he might have a few females for you

Thanks, I'll contact Solex next week after I've redone the tank. Simon's going to have to share with other tank mates for a while as the substrate in his tank is not good enough. Eish... going to be fun :D More planting to do this weekend ^^,

O Linxie do him a favour and make him a little bed near the survice of the tank.
Once he discover it he wil always go and sleep their, you even get betta hang mats :)

If it only sits in the corner than it is seriously unhappy or ill and on its way out.

Hi I'm new to this site and am looking to do a similar thing to Linxie.
I am looking for 4 nice colourful female Bettas and 1 male (preferably halfmoons or crowntails) to set up a small Betta only tank. I can't PM yet - so I would like to ask if solex69 is selling (in Cape Town) or if Linxie has found a source yet. Or anyone else in CT know?
    Thanks guys ;-)
