Just wondering if there are any betta shows in Durban or anywhere else in South Africa at the moment.

Have any of you been to one?

You've got a brilliant idea here.
Why start something like this? I kinda sucks that I'm in PE, but I'm sure this can be pulled off in one of the bigger cities?

I would Drive/Fly to anywhere in the country to support something like this.

That's just the thing. If TASA can organize a show in Capetown with just a few people, this could slowly inspire betta keeping and breeding.

Any ideas what the show can include? There could be a fee to enter as a participant to cover venue fees and so forth.

I'm sure there are people out there who breed bettas and are willing to support a show like this.

There can be 3 shows a year 1 in CPT 1 in JHB and one in DBN. Breeders compete in their own areas until a final is held in either of the above mentioned 'betta zones'

TASA can have stalls where pet stores and amateur breeders can sell their stocks to people attending the shows.

Maybe we can even attract some international participants?

Thats the thing most shows are held by the international Betta association. These are not just so people can come and look at pretty fish.
They are like show Bettas with prizes and qualified judges. Do not even think we have one single judge in this country.
The quality of betta we get here would not even stand a change compared to what the guys overseas have.
So this would only be a get together for betta lovers.

I don't think the market for bettas have reached a level where these shows can run without failing.

Nice to think about this though :)

haha, we can always have a photographic, online show on the forum?

I really need to put my Orandas in my flowbin and get my Jebo planted.

Is it a good idea to have an online show? There could always be prizes like Ferts/substrate/nano tanks/plants

I have also thought of this, but I dont think we should restrict it to bettas, I think we should do that, aswell as a planted, big fish , etc part in the show, kinda like a aquarium show as such...

    Regards

Hey, now you guys are getting me going here. Back in the day we had a yearly competition for all tropicals in a little vacant shop in Cavendish Square, Claremont.
All fish will be judged in their own category of course.
Floating trophies use to be up for grabs as well as a few other things, like food and water conditioners.
We should really try something like this again.
