Betta macrostoma

This is my Betta macrostoma . Originated from Brunei , one of the countries in Borneo, near to the state of Sarawak, Malaysia.
It is one of the most beautiful wild betta in the world but pity they are facing the danger of extinction.

wow lovely maybe if more people are encouraged to keep and breed them we could save the species.

 

Absolutely! We need to preserve and save this species before their habitat is totally gone for development.
But too bad this species, also called "Brunei Beauty" is sometimes overpriced in the open market and make it not so accessible by hobbyist.

 

That is a Beauti!! I have heard about them before, but never actually seen one, so thats a nice pic to see!!

They look really nice... How do you breed them? Like normal betta?

 

Betta macrostoma is mouth brooder, meaning that they do not breed like what the betta splenden did. They dont create bubble nest.
Once they mate and the female lays eggs, the male will pick up the eggs and brood from its mouth until the young fish is out from the eggs.

They need a pH of 4.5-5.5 , water temperature of 22-25 degrees Celsius. So I installed a chiller for them.

No. They are quite peaceful and u can have a few pairs together in a community tank.

Yes I own those fish. I have 3 tanks of them, trying to preserve them before they are totally vanish in the wild.
Betta macrostoma is mouth brooder and B.splendens are bubble nester.
B.spledens fight with their mate but B.macrostoma dont.

 

and the two species together? would they fight? id actually be interested in a pair of these if they get on with the betta splendens i have
