Hi my betta bred rather quicker than I was expecting and I need to find a live food source for them ASAP.

I found brine shrimp eggs and am breeding that so long but Incase that doesn't work is there anyone in Cape Town with something?

could use Baby brine shrimp, Microworms, infosuria or vinegar eels.

You could try Hikari First Bites.
It is a floating food, however can be mixed with a little bit of water, and then when poured into the tank sinks just like BBS.
I use a shot glass with just a bit of water, and a teaspoon point full.
Swirl it about a bit, and pour into tank.
It looks just like BBS, and is the same size or smaller.
My CPD fry thrive on it.

You could also try crumbed boiled egg yolk.
Feed small amounts as it tends to foul the water if left uneaten

I have 2 brine shrimp hatcheries going with hatched bbs. If you don't find what you are looking for you're welcome to come over and get some. Just bring a syringe.

My first batch took 3 days to hatch. I then changed the light to a submersible and suspend it just over the water surface to give it more heat. My second batch then hatched within 24 hours.

Here's a pic of the contraption.

Dude- I'm in Blouberg. If you are prepared to take the drive then you can come and grab a starter culture of microworms. If they have just hatched then you should have a few days before they become free swimming. You should have infusoria in the tank if it is established. But its best to get microworms for them- easy to keep and easy to feed.

If you feel confident in handling them pull them. Lost my only 3 baby discus to cannibalism because I was scared to move them. Not anymore. When they start taking bbs I'm going to move them on the next hatch. Fish are too unpredictable as they never showed aggression towards the babies. To make things worse they where little discus already not tadpole shaped fry. So sad.

I had a friend make me a tank divider using perspex and gauze.
It fits all the standard 45cm, 60cm and 90cm tanks snuggly, basically dividing the tank into 2, without impacting in any way on water flow, light emission but preventing the parents from reaching the fry.

A few fry may be able to get through the 1mm holes, but any active hunting and feeding on the fry will be eliminated.
Within about 10 days the fry should be too large to fit through the gauze.

I will be using it with my German Blue Ram fry that have just started swimming freely in a 45cm tank, until they are large enough to transfer to a grow out tank.

Yeah I actualy have a glass divider in the tank currently but it's to protect the female from the male. There are fry on both sides. I think I'm going to try keep parents with the fish this first run, got a good feeling about it. If it doesn't work the betta waste no time breeding again..

Where did you get perspex by the way, tried to get some the other day but went with glass.

BTW why do I have an OP over my profile pic now?

The friend is in the signage business, and they use perspex extensively.
He has suggested that orders can be placed for custom tank dividers, if there is interest.
The same concept can be used as tank coverings, keeping insects from getting into the water, and fish from jumping out.

Anybody in Cape Town interested in white worms, been breeding them for awhile now and can assist with a starter culture.

The person who made this offer posted once in December, and was last seen online in early January. I doubt you will get a response unfortunately
