Hi all, I thought I would start a topic about my experience breeding Bettas (I have none yet!) I've been conditioning my first pair for a week and am looking ready to introduce the pair next week sometime! On here I would love to share and hear advice about breeding Bettas and hopefully find new homes for future fry! All advice is welcome! Below I have starched photos of the pair.

Be sure to provide plenty hiding space for the female after introduction.... and... be sure to monitor. If it looks like he is attacking her more than courting... place 'n glass partition until he builds a very prominent sturdy nest.. before re-introducing.... She needs to show an interest.. for this to work. remove her immediately... once the eggs are in the nest.

Thanks so much for the input, he keeps building relatively small nests but am hoping he'll start to build a larger one once they are able to see each other any recommendations on what I should use as hiding spaces?

Plants, Rocks, caves, Driftwood.... Anything she can find refuge behind... but above all... your constant observation... and refereeing... to intervene... if things starts to get out of hand.... There WILL be an argument.. but use your discretion to decide when either one is taking too much of a beating....

If you can get moss, alot of it will provide the refuge, fish won't get hurt and moss is great for the fry provide micro organisms for them to feed on plus when they became free swimming they love the moss to hide in.

Hi and welcome to the Forum

A heavily planted tank will give lots of hiding places.

I cut a polystyrene cup in half and floated it in the corner of the tank. He keeps attempting a bubble nest but seems to shortly after loose interest and let it slowly break up for some reason. Hoping once the female gets introduced he will build a sustainable nest. Thanks so much for the advice!Good luck with with the fry, maybe post some pictures if all goes well!

I'm not sure where is CPT maybe post a wanted ad for Java or Xmas moss. And the half polystyrene works well just use some tape and stick it to the corner. 2ft tank is nice to breed the betta with water line around 10cm to 15cm

Look up conditioning betta for breeding. I use to feed the pair blood worms morning and afternoon for 1 or 2 weeks and they was not able to see each other. Breeding tank was 2ft or 45X30 think 1.5ft(need the space for when babies come) water line 10cm to 15cm, moss, cup, water, sponge filter was setup 1 week before breeding.I added the male on a Wednesday afternoon to breeding tank, Friday afternoon/night 3hrs before the move feed the pair, abt 2hrs before the lights go off the female will be added in a half 2lt bottle and filter will be turned off.Sat morning around 6am open female that when my lights use to come on and around 11am they was done. I did it this way because you need to watch them but create your own way.
