Werner5 - do a search on here for "Breeding Bettas My Way" by Solex - you won't find much better info than that..

Infusoria is made from putting a rotting apple - or hay in a small container with water. Over a day or so you get a lot of microscopic and larger bugs growing in the water.. This is infusoria. That is what your fry will feed on from day 1 to about a week old..

If you havent got, just use Liquifry for a few days and the infusoria will grow anyway..

Very small one celled organisms that your fry will feed on.Best to feed betta fry infusoria the first week because BBS is too big for them.

A couple of methods to make infusoria:

bruised/blanched lettuce in warm water then give sunlight.
dried grass in warm water then give sunlight.
brown banana peel in water - very fast method

It will give off a hectic stink but by that you know it is ready!

    or use green water.

does infusoria in anyway control algae?
(i ask cause at work we have these floating things labeled Wonderstraw - and apparently the workings is that micro organisms are cultivated by placing the straw buoy in your pond, which controls algae - wonder if the organism is infusoria?)

"The WonderStrawâ„¢ product is packed in sachets of 25g each. The straw serves as a substrate for a complex mixture of microorganisms (bacteria & fungi). These microorganisms are inactive while housed in the dry sachets. However, when the sachet is placed in the affected water, the microorganisms become active upon contact with the water."

nope, i dont have a microscope, sorry

have been curious about how a bag of straw can effectively regulate algae, cuz lots of customers come back and buy more regularly, so Something is being cultivated in it.

i also saw your post on cultivating infusoria sais " dried grass in warm water then give sunlight." essentially straw, also like gavins said as well "hay in a small container with water". i wonder...
