Betta breeding in community tank

Hi all, thought I should share this as this is very fascinating to me, do not know if anybody else have experienced it before.
My Betta male wants to breed in my "community tank". So what, you say. My filter pours in water from above the tank at 1000l/hour so no nest can survive. The little fellow went ahead and build his nest in one of the hollow branches of my driftwood, so his nest is about 40 cm under the water surface, inside a hollow log. I do not know if the female has laid yet, but she looks rather tattered, I think I will remove her in any case, just to be on the safe side.

 

Talk about thinking outside the box! Clever betta! Can you see whether there are any eggs in the nest? Probably not I guess, but it'll be interesting to hear if the babies survive, if there are any

 

Well I originally did not think they spawned, but the male was chasing the female a lot yesterday ( much more then usual), and this afternoon one of my ancistrus was cleaning the gravel under the driftwood, sure he was scavenging eggs. Amazing to watch the male go up for air and come and add to the nest in the log.
