The outside was staned and varnished, the inside i gave a undercout followed by 3 coats of white enamel and then i used silicone to seal all edges in the inside to make sure no water gets in, also had a extractor fan in the lid. I used normal 19mm pine.

in not sure about the thikness, think its 12mm, its at the tank builder at the moment, hes resealing and bracing it

Do you have a thread on the site for the DIY build? That sounds pretty much like what I did...

If your glass is 12mm then a canopy with steel reinforcing should be fine resting on it?

@MarcHawke I just had a brain fart, was thinking of using the wood that gets pressure treated, like the lapa poles, dont know how it will look/work. but i know it gets used to build stuff in water with... what do you think?

I think all wood will eventually warp (unless it's seriously thick wood which would then be too heavy) if it's not kept cool. Especially with T5's. It seems like the people that don't have problems have got fans running. I will brace mine to fix/correct the lid but will also mount fans at the back.

As I said earlier, I don't think sealing the wood against moisture is our problem but rather heat warping. You can paint the entire canopy in bitumen and will still probably warp.
