Hi All, I hope I can get some help here, please. Some info:

I have a tank that is infested with Malaysian Trumpet snails. They were great when I was keeping Tanganyikans in the tank. I'm now converting the tank to a planted tank for the foreseeable future. I've removed the sand and emptied the tank. The problem is that the snails are in the filter media, and they would disturb the substrate once I plant the tank. I really don't want to buy all new filter media for that size sump.

I'm looking to nuke the tank to get rid of all snails. I don't mind if it kills the bacteria in the filter.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get this done? It's a large tank with a sump, so meds like Cupramine might be expensive.

Rinse the media, in declorinated water.
And manually pick off any snails on the media and in the tank.

Put some cucumber at the bottom of the tank at night - weigh down with a spoon.
It should attract any snails in the tank
And carefully remove in the morning. Repeat a few nights in a row, and you should get the bulk of them

I've removed all food sources for the past week, so a little DIY snail trap might get me quite far thanks. They always seem to come back no matter how well I clean things, so I'm considering the nuclear options. Happy to have snails in the tank, it's just the Malaysian trumpet snail burrowing through a planted tank has annoyed me in the past.

Get some assassin snails once you’ve manually removed as much as you can, they will make short work of the rest.

I had the same problem, I got Alum Powder at dischem for cheap and soaked the plants for 24 hours, its a week in and so far no snail in my new tank.

You can just add it into the tank as is, but it will kill any livestock you have and need a good rinse afterwards.

Any other hardscape I rinsed down with boiling water.

I have tried no planaria thats shrimp safe in the past, did not work for me.

    Check this out:

I agree with the assassin snails, they will keep them at bay. Might take some time, but it should work well, and prevent any future issues with snails.
