So I have come to the conclusion that I don't trust the good old magnet cleaner for cleaning the inside of my glass because it doesn't matter how careful you are , it always scratches the glass due to sand getting caught , so I moved to a soft sponge but that also have failed coz my fine sand gets in...
I tried modifications , wour like to know what you guys use?
    methods? [IMG][IMG]

I use the blade from a Stanley knife ... works the best imho . Even the toughest algae is removed with ease

I think I'm a bit lucky, I have no trace of algae in any of my tanks and my oldest tank is a year old.

I use an old credit card
Very good for scraping off the algae and it doesn't damage the glass

I also use a kitchen sponge, the rougher side and it doesnt scratch the glass

The trick is to clean the whole glass first without touching the bottom (ie:up to about 5cm from bottom)
Once the whole glass is done you do the bottom strip a bit more carefully
In this way you dont pick up sand from the bottom and take it all over the glass

If its very tough algae then as has been said, a Stanley knife ... and i like the old credit card idea.. that shouldn't scratch either

Thanx MariaS , your answers is always liked...

Think I will get two big kitchen sponges , one for cleaning only the top above section off the tank , then another one for the bottom...Good idea of how to clean , actually quite straight forward .
I don't have algae really in my tank because I have an algae scrubber in my sump , but after two -three weeks there is some stuff on the glass that needs cleaning

Ooooh - please post some pics and details ... must be one of the biggest benefits having a sump in a planted tank. Actually probably the only reason I might ever consider running a sump.

yeah , it's awesome , probably one the best diy projects to do
I went from cleaning my rocks & glass every darn week , to installing a uv clarifier-which off course didn't help , to my scrubber...
now I only like have to wipe/clean my glass every two weeks , I don't even touch the rocks anymore(and they white) [IMG][IMG]

    Agree with @MariaS
If you are going to use a sponge, be very careful near the bottom of the tank. If you pick up a piece of gravel by mistake, you will scratch the glass.

    Hmmmm....
I am leaning towards a black slate tiled aquarium , what do you guys think? no substrate , spaced 5mm with powerhead outlet(pipes) underneath the tiles to blow excess gunk out...
Kinda like the idea of a tile aquarium

Tile looks good with certain fish. Black background, light grey tile and bright lighting looks very good :)
