    Hi Everyone,

I was wondering what the best cannister filter is for a 5 foot tank. Roughly 500ltr.

I am thinking of getting the Tetratec EX1200.

    any others I can consider?

    Thanks.

The new 06 Fluval range has just arrived and from the ones I have seen so far they are priced more competitively. At a result of the new range coming in I have also seen some shops putting the 05 stock on clearance. So maybe another option.

Agree with SeanJ anything with Eheim on it goes like a DB9.

@SloMo.00. if you looking more in the budget line I have had pretty good service from my Cascade 1500 on a 240l setup so far, some folks say they are noisy but locked away in its cabinet I cannot hear mine.

Has anyone used the "SUN SUN" UV Lamp filter? I see Petstop sells them. @GOJ, what is the output per hour on you filter? I don't mind the noise that much. As long as I have a good filter that does the job.

Something like 1275l/h for tanks up to 700l on the box, but I would think for anything over 400l you would want to add some additional filtration.

    Hi

I would go for more than 1 cannister filter on a 5 foot tank.I currently use 4 cannister filters, 2xAtman and 2x Eheim Classic 2217 on my 5 foot tank.
Although excellent fiters , I have not seen Atman cannister filters at pet shops anymore. The Eheim 2217 is robust , efficient ,very simple to clean and fortunately very affordable as well.

I have the sun-sun running here next to me in my office and its very quiet. its now going on the 2nd year and now problems so far. its a good budget cannister filter.
also had great service with the Crystalflow-80, made by Hagen. ver quiet and robust.

I've got an eheim inside my 50L tank and it does a super job.
Just packs up if any of the fine black sand I have gets in it.
And its being a pain to remove the part that gets cleaned.
So not too happy with "ease of use" but its cleaning super well!
Oh and my silly bettas kEep getting stuckstuck between t filter and t tank cause it has 4suction cups. So now I only stick it on at t bottom so they don't get trapped.

@ksmith .. add a open cell sponge on the intake, reduces need for cleaning and will reduce substrate suck so longer lasting filter.

I have only 1 canister a JBL e1501 - no issues with it, been running like a dream in my 4ft, good media in the box. Downside - you will need to get it from an international site, best price is German sites but expect to pay almost R600 just for shipping.

Is there a ratio to work on how many L should your tank be against how many L per hour your filter pumps.( sorry for changing the subject).

I dont have the one with the UV light. I wouldnt pay extra just for the UV.
The filter with the UV is nice to have but the light bulb does not have a good lifespan and its not easy to find.
