Some ppl prefer siporax and give their reason. Other ppl prefer matrix. In my opinion, sorry @Dirk Bellstedt, matrix is better. Much better. :p

How do you see if it's better or not?

If I understand the technicalities correctly, if 2 identical setups (regarding size and bio-load), have different filtration, the better filtration will have the higher ORP reading (oxidation reduction potential).

Like I said, if I understand my reading correctly.....

Simple... buy it and use it. Whichever one you buy will be the one you prefer. Because once you have spent R800 on either matrix or siporax, the one you bought will be the one you prefer! :p

how would you test or even see the diffeance in performance of a bio media ? Only advantage i see in matrix is that you can use it in small filters and still get a large amount of surface area, in a sump there is usually alot of space compared to a hob or canister, so i would just go with bio balls and/or plastic pot scrubbers in a sump...

1 - batting folded into layers if you get the thin sheats, this takes out all the big particles before it has a chance to clog up your bio media.
    2 - your bio media
3 - depending on what tipe of tank you are planning (planted or not) i like to have a planted section in the sump if the tank doesnt have any live plants already, but you will need a sump light, i like to plant in those black plastic seed trays with a thin batting layer to prvent subtrate from getting out through the bottom holes and capped with pool filter sand, you need easy fast growing plants for this. These trays can be removed for maintenance easily.
    4 - some more batting.
5 - good quality activated carbon and seachem purigen.

@azurekoi did not know that it can be re-used, never tried it, and im thinking of getting a second internal filter (sun sun 600l/h) and use Matrix in this filter. thanks for the answer!
