My little "boy's" growing up well, already ~6cm (+-2.3 inches) from the teeny tiny 1.5cm (0.6 inches) I got him at. It must be because he's good and eats all his veg :D also he doesn't like sharing with snails at all and swats them off with his tail, weird thing too is he doesn't seem to like sitting on top of his veg to eat and instead pushes it about until he can eat on his side, or better yet, upside down! :p

Question to the pro's- at his current size and seeing the cute little bristle buds popping out, can I start presuming he's a male?

Looks like a male but just wait for more bristles to appear on top of it's head to be sure. Mine took a really long time to get his bristles. I almost thought that he was a female because he was 8cm before his bristles really started growing.

They do! I believe its because they know I'm watching and will only brag if they're special :p

@Kiaan26 I'm normally more patient than this but I want to see those handsome bristles :D

I even got mine a female. Because he had a moustache for about 2 month before he got all his bristles. And those grew in about 3 weeks.
This is him now. I've only had him for 6 months.

His only problem is he's a bad parent. Twice my pair has spawned and both times he kicks out the eggs and then stays in the cave.

What a bad parent! Speaking about caves, I put a coconut in my tank for my little guy to have a cave, never once did he even pretended to like it so my Betta took it over, he just lives under an amazon sword leaf where my Pearl Gourami's stay and (now I'm guessing here) they think he's a decorative animal rug

They usually like the sword leaves until they mature. Then the males usually stay in their caves and the females hide every where else and only come to the cave to breed. My male usually is always in his cave and the female is either behind the sponge filter or on a sword leaf.
