    Hi all

Recently I came across, in a LPS , some basalt substrate for reptiles and I loved what it looked like . After a whole 10 minutes of intensive googling I learnt the following :

Basalt is formed due to rapid cooling of magma

It may increase the PH of water

It can become reddish in colour

From those facts I deduced that basalt oxidises thus releasing magnesium and iron ions which could explain the increase in PH BUT my question is ... Will it harm tropical fish ? All those heavy metal ions don't sound too healthy for fish but will it benefit plant life ?

Anyone with any sort of insight on this matter be it speculation or experiences please help .

Once again. Thank y'all for your time =D
