Hehe couldn't resist  I love having substrate in my tanks... Its great to watch how different species dig, sift and move the sand around. My Keyhole Cichlids have cleared a little area around their favourite rock and you can see how proud they are :) I also think the system looks unnatural without substrate but I guess its personal preference...

Would barebottom tanks be cleaned more often than ones with a substrate due to the fact that the poo is more visible?

I think most people only use bare bottom tanks for quarantine purposes and to raise young fry. So yes it does have it's place in the hobby, but I think that is where it should stay. By keeping an aquarium you are evermore trying to mimic a small piece of nature, so why would you want to go with a bare bottom tank? Rather provide your fish with what is natural for them and what will promote their natural behaviour.

i have a barebottom quarintine tank and fry tank. Its alot easier to clean!!

60 baby mollies and 20 guppies in a tank do make a lot of waste (funny actually, they are so small)
