If anyone happens to see the index anywhere please let me know. It's the only book I need to complete the set and I can't find it anywhere.....

    Thanks!

    Have you tried www.take2.co.za yet?

Also, call Exclusive Books & CNA to enquire. They can order it for you but it'll be a little bit more expensive than usual

Yer, I think they had 1 or 2 copies of Photo Index 1-5 when I placed the order this morning! As u say, I included it in my order for the same reason! Quick referencing!

The others are more for more detailed things hopefully, but I still need to get Vol 1! Oh, and then theres the Cichlid ones, and Vol 5 and the Wels Catfish ones (although the last two where only printred in German I believe?) Any others I missed?

    Cheers
    Big G!

    Hi Everyone,

I commented on this thread a while ago rather blindly, in hindsight, and I would like to add a thing or two.

I have volume I of Baensch in English which I bought about 300 years ago, it is still in perfect order. Then I also think I have a second copy of this at work which was passed on to me by my aquatic mentor, Mr Georg Reinhardt. Mr Reinhardt was a pioneer in the aquatic environment in South Africa in the 1960 and early 1970's. He worked at the National Aquarium in Pretoria until 1984 when he retired and he died in 1998 in Stellenbosch. His widow passed on all his aquatic literature to me, and amongst this there was another volume 1 of the Baensch Atlas. So what I am saying to you is that I might actually have a volume 1 that I may be able to sell off to someone who might be interested. I do not know what the market price of this volume is, but I will accept offers......

Then I think that all of you are looking at these Baensch volumes as libraries for all of your fishes. There are other very good literature sources which extensively cover various groups of fishes and I would like to point these out to you.

I have two volumes of the Aqualog series on South American Cichlids Volume 1 which includes all the pike cichlids, the Cichla species; then the Crenicichlids, followed by the geophagus, the Satanopercas, the Teleocichlas, the Uarus, Acarichthys, Astronotus, and Biotodomas. I also have the South American Cichlids volume II on dwarf cichlids and for those dwarf cichlids fundis this is an excellent book to have if you want to have a reference book. There are of course other Aqualog books as well which would also be good to have.

Another series which is very informative are the DATZ books which are in German and English. I have subscribed to the German "Die Aquarium und Terrarium Zeitschrift" abbreviated DATZ meaning "The Aquarium and Terrarium Magazine" since 1990 which has a tremendous wealth of information. This magazine has brought out specialist volumes on dwarf cichlids called "South American Dwarf Cichlids" which is better than the Aqualog in my opinion. They have also brought out a volume on many of the South American catfish, the so-called L numbers, and many of these are shown in very good pics. They are both in English and German, it should be noted.

So, what I am saying is that for those of you that are interested in just the one or other group of fishes, you should also look at these books, they are almost better than the Baensch atlas.

    Kind regards,

    Dirk
