    Hey all

I have a largish cichlid which I saved from another fish after it recieved a bad beating, and right now he's pretty limp with many scales missing. However, he survived the night, and I've been treating him with some meds that 'reduce stress' and 'promote healing', and he seems to slowly be getting better.

The problem is now that he has developed fungus over a large area of his body where he was attacked.

I've been doing some reading and most sources say do a good water change to keep the water quality optimal and also to separately treat the affected fish with a short salt bath (or dip). If I were to do the dip, what kind of salt should I use (is marine salt acceptable?), how much do I use and for how long do I bathe him for?

    Thanks in advance,
    SA

I bought aquarium pharmaceuticals TM (API) liquid fungus cure from my LFS and it worked for me.

You can use epsom salt-I was told 1 tsp per 5 litres water

The fish passed away, unfortunately, but thanks for your advice guys - I'm sure to use it in the future. :)

Ideally you should get yourself some SERA Mineral Salt and use it for this type of treatment...

Sorry you lost the fish, but when its at that stage its very difficult to save especially when you move it to a different tank which increases the stress thereby further weakening the fishes immune system...
