    Hi All,

I know that someone can help me out with this...

I would like to know how does one go about separating the newly hatched brine shrimp from the capsules in order to feed them to baby fish?

When do you start feeding them yeast?

Any help and info will be gladly appreciated.

Shine a torch onto the water or place a container with half of it in light and the other half in the dark. The BBS move towards the light.

I've never hatched BS before, but from what I've seen:

When you want to harvest, turn you airtubing off
    Let the shells settle
Shine a torch on the top of the water, the BS will be attracted to the light
Use a BS scoop (fine mesh/gauze) and scoop away

Why do you want to feed them yeast? Don't grow them up, feed them to your fish.

Brine shrimp are attracted to light. So the torch method should work really well. Just use airline tubing to syphon them out.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. One thing that I've sorta noticed is that the shells/capsules seem to float to the surface so trying to get them out without the shells is a big mission.

Thanks @Sean J, I'll give the pipe thing a try it seems to be the simplest method, but I'm still going to be stuck with the capsules.

Another thing is that I've raised mine in salt water, what will happen with the excess salt water going into the tank, will it not make the water too salty?

@Zoom, I've never even seen a BS net, where would I possibly get one from?

I'm extremely fond of this topic.
From my attepmts I harvest the small ones.
I turn off the air pump, but the other why that zoom mentioned.
The bbs sinks and the empty shells float.
You can use a light but during the day won't matter.
I then use a 10ml syringe with a peice of hairline plastic pipe
About 5-8cm attached to the syringe.
I let the water settle for 10 mins, and suck them up
Into the syringe and then put them in a bowl.
No eggs shells what so ever as they are a float.
I add clean water to dilute the salt and let them sink again.
Then again I use the syringe to draw excess water out, without
Taking the bbs with it and add more clean water.
I just pour all into the tank, as some salt will not hurt the fish,
I have attempted to grow them with yeast but so far only
To 8 days but maybe my own fault to add spinach into Thier
Feed. Yes so hope my way will help u.

@Lloydster & @BBQ, Thank you both so much for the extra info. Now I have a better understanding of how to do this, I hope that I will not lose any more of my micro-dot babies....

They will feed on yeast you got to dose it till its murky im talking bout growing out brines for conditioning food ,but ive seen the proof in the thousands at a certain breeders house ,i remember the protein to fat ratio increases as the bs get bigger in comparison to newly hatched bs which has a lot more fats ,i think it would be hard to find a better breeding conditioning food than these altho i use white mosquito lavae which i find quite good except i think the mossie parents know what im doing and are trying to kill me at night!

ps sorry skye thought you wanted to grow bs

BBQ has the right idea. If you use the cut 2L bottle method the BBS will sink and the empty shells float.

Turn off the aeration and put a light at the bottom of the container. They seem to swim down easier then up.

Take the syringe and after a few minutes suck them up.

Now I usually take some stocking fold it double and slowly squeeze the water with the BBS through.

You should have a little orange clump on your stockings. Turn it around and with a very small stream wash them of into a bowl.
