After about 4 months of trying to find a suitable spot, deciding what I want to do, the tank is running again

The tank is now situated on the veranda and will be a cold water tank - Thank you to all with your ideas of the types of fish that I can host in the tank. It is a 5000l tank with a 1000l biofilter. The biofilter is situated in the garden and will be hidden by the plants. The biofilter will also be covered with rocks and cement to look like part of the garden.

The sump of the tank will be cleaned by flushing water through the 110mm valve. The Sediment Filter is of the water calming type and also uses a 110mm valve to flush. Water topup or changing is done via a level valve(from a toilet).

I put a few koi in the tank to help until the bio is settled.

I was wondering if the old media that I kept in a large drum with water for four months, and put now back into the filter, will speed up the completion of the nitrogen cycle.

Looks great with the wooden paneling around! PS: Are those the Ogon group you spawned the other day?

Just for those of you who wish to have a tank like this, BEWARE!! This tank, without the Cupboard and without water, weighs 2.2 tons!! Steal frame with 20mm solid glass. Floor is 60mm glass. Cost me R4000 just for the rigging company to move it to the veranda.

So if ever you decide to go this way, make sure about space, quality of floor, and your wallet!! Normally a tank like this gets build where it is going to stand and never to be moved again. I have done the move thing and it was a DISASTER!!

@ Markd.... Dude, don't rub it in our faces that you live in Namibia and are alowed to keep most anything you guys want... All species of Hydrocynus are BL in RSA.... + Think about it,although this is a MONSTER tank - now you want to go stuff an apex predator that can reach speeds of like massive km/hour in just 5000liters? Come on dude - be constructive, rather give ZS6WDL some solid advice on a stocking list for his tank

Please have a read thru our BL... Since this is a RSA forum,we need to stick to the rules.... Not bitching at you,but we are a constructive community.... Jokes go under the joke thread....I should know,i post there regularly.

As Azurekoi said, he wants to twist my arm to make it tropical. At this moment it will be a cold water tank until me and azurekoi and all of you guys have planned this tank. I will definitely try to stay low maintenance as my priority is with my Tilapia Hatchery. But I think colourful fish and live plants would look nice. Especially as this tank is now on the veranda of the Dining Room of my Lodge.

Hey ZS6WDL.... Why dont i help you some time to do a bit of aquascaping on that sucker? With a 60mm base to it,I bet we could do an awsome Riverside biotope for a breeding group of some of your Tilapia? Make it look dik natural with rocky "bays" and some big driftwood hanging down from the top... like overhanging tree roots.... Think the Tillapia should display awesome natural behaviour in a setup like that....chat about it when I see you.

friggin Awesome indeed, i think you should go tropical too, get yourself some solar panels at heat that sucker up. or if you dont mind paying the electricity bill put in some heating elements, have seen guys heat up 15000 liter ponds with those. plus with such a large water volume temp swings would be minimum main heating would be for water changes.

It cost a lot of money and it never stops. Be prepared to spend more than 50000 if you want to make it look nice, that is without the fish!

Azurekoi, do you know that the natural behavior of Tilapia is to tear the plants apart?
