    Hello All,

I would like to invite all Arowana owners to reply to this thread just so we all get an idea of who we are...

Give as much info as you like and post pictures if possible...

My Aro is a silver about 2 years approx. 50cm that I got with a 2nd hand tank and I am now in the process of preparing for a larger tank as my family has grown very attached to him :)

Hear is a picture of a few months ago - I will post a more updated picture soon!

Would you guys mind sharing the setups you keep them in?

I would like to keep one, but I do not know if my system would suffice. I currently have a 1.5mx0.6x0.45 (LxHxW) with a 3 foot sump, is that sufficient?

some people say these kinda tankbusters shouldnt be kept in home aquaria because of the size they can attain and that probably no tank is big enough, but theres lots to be said about a happy and healthy fish.mine is in a 5foot at the moment but it is rapidly becoming to small and hence an upgrade is on the cards, and i suppose basically small fish =small tank the bigger the fish the bigger the tank needed

@CharleyFXST, like oscar freak said some people say they should not be kept in tanks only left in the wild or aquariums\zoo parks!

This is one of those fish where the information varies greatly from source to source.

I personally got mine 3 months ago with a 2nd hand tank. The tank is only 4foot. I originally only wanted the tank\cabinet\filters etc... and was going to sell my Aro. However my family and I have become very attached to him. I know he is in a small tank for now but he is in much better condition now than with previous owner. He had lots of scratches on his sides from large rocks in the tank, only got water changes once a month\once every two months etc...

These have all healed very well, he is also in a tank with only gravel now\no decor. Oscar freak and my self also do frequent water changes to keep them healthy.

To ans you next Q, I would say bare min 2m\1000L ideally at least 2.5m\1500L. This is just my personal opinion from my research and watching my aro.

I am trying to aim for the largest I can get off course, but with tanks of this size besides the costs and maintenance you have to find space for them...

howzit I got my silver aro about 2months ago he was +-15cm his now sitting at a healthy 32cm :) I have a 5ft at the moment and I would recommend the idea home would be 2700mm x 600mm x 700mm +- 1300L and a 6ft sump grand total of 1964L of water , I used the fact that avg aros get to 90-95cm so I took length x3 to get length of my tank ( don't get me wrong there is 4ft aro out there at homes ) I just got the tank last week Monday :)
and I love my aro so much personality and he recognizes not me but his food board that I prepare all his and the other fishes food on lol

Recommendation i have read are 6x full grown length, made up by 4.5 x body length as the length of the tank and 1.5 x body length as the width of the tank so the fish can turn easy, height is not that important. A tropical pond may be the next upgrade :).

    Congrats on your new tank!

@Jwh , I haven't read that but I read that off the aro forum as a minimum tank size that is what my tank is based off

    Thanks bud

I would love an Arowana and some stingrays but would only keep them if I could build a tank like this4c189ebc4c284.jpg
"Sweetheart ....I am going to knock out the lounge wall and build a t.....ouch what was that for?"
