Good afternoon guys... I have a silver at the moment that is over 50cm and has drop eye on the one side.. also herd and read a lot with all the same explanations that you have all stated, from fatty tissue build up behind the eye to being fed food that sinks to the bottom and they have to look down to pick it up. all in all I firmly believe that this is due to inbreeding and genetics. must also say that this does not affect my Arowana at all.. as for the Asian Arowana, i had brought a Banjar red Asian Arowana that I landed up selling to a good home.. at the time when I had seen it at the lps my inner child came out and I had to have it.. (sure im not the only one to have done this) but after having it and it started to grow and I realised how aggressive it became were it would attack everything that it could. only then did I start to do my homework. only to realise that it would have to be housed in a tank alone, as apart from the Jardini this is the most aggressive one there is.. after a lot of reading and talking to people i have decided that if i was going to get another Asian it would have to be a real RTG Asian Arowana. (Red Tail Golden) why a RTG, well has to be one of my favourite.

well, that's another question all together. my Banjar was said to have one and every time I asked I was told it has not arrived yet.. but to be honest It would not bug me that much as you have your tell tail signs as to a good grade Arowana..

The fish at the top end of that price range should be microchipped, you should receive a video of the chip test and a copy of the certificate with the fish, the chip should be readable by your vets reader, and you should have access to the breeders database tracing the exact history of the fish. A good breeder will also provide a DOA warrantee.
Make sure the tank is situated on the north-eastern side of your house.
And then good luck and fortune will follow.
So it's an investment, that will more than pay for itself:)

I miss my aro, had a stunning jardini. One thing I did to help prevent DE when I had any aro was put a mirror slider on top so he sees the reflection and movement all the time. But there are so many factors that could influence DE that I ended up trying everything just in case lol.

Did your jar have DE? From everything I've read, it seems that mostly captive bred silvers are very prone.

No he didn't but I'm a bit of an overprotective parent and I often think what if and just in case.

I don't know much about Arowana, but I found a guy on Gumtree selling different Species. If you pm me your email I can send you what he sent me. I only have a list of what he sells, but he didn't give me the pricing he also says he does the micro chip thing.

How big was your tank may I ask?

My lfs has a small jardinii and I am very tempted. But I think my tank may be a bit small.

BE CAREFUL!, there is a worldwide network of scammers ostensibly selling all kinds of fancy aro's, you will end up paying without ever seeing your fish!

I had a look at the gumtree ad, the telephone country code is India, nobody in the worlds sells the aro's described in the ad at R750

I got a different one, but to be honest I don't know the people and with the amount of scammers out there it is definitely possible that this is also a scam. I would love to own an Aro, but maybe one day when I can have the right equipment, my 250L tank 4ft in length would not do at this stage
