arowana care

hey,i'm interested in finding out people experiences with keeping arowana so if u got something to say i would be happy to here

ja i just wanna find out how people look after theirs

 

small 10 to 20 % water changes once or twice a weak depending on how stocked up you are .keep the temp constant they dont like temp fluctuations.
try and get the flow in the middle regions of tank they dont like flow on the top levels or water distrubance on top.hikari aro sticks the best food and treats once a week (spiders,moths,beetles).
this advise got my silver to over 50cm before the maid poisend him and the the guy who gave me this advise ,well his aro is close to a meter a real bad boy and still growing

he will eventually end up with my 3 oscars,2 plecos and 1 giraffe cichlid,i change +-20% once a week temperature hovers around 28 degrees depending on eskom

 

What size tank is he in now, and what size tank do you have planned for the future?

 

his in the 900 now,will move him to the 1.5m as soon as he cant fit in my oscars mouths and will upgrade to 2m when i get some space

 

aros need exellent filtration .how does the 1.5m filtration work out ?. 3 oscars and a silver you are going to need to increase it and any other fish in there will be eaten cilchids and plecs incl .im currently running my jardini in a 1.6 m with 1.2m sump maxed on bio balls & ceramics and he is the only fish in the tank due to wanting good quailty water & agression levels ,silvers are not as agro but eat anything that can fit in the mouth and the mouth on a big arro opens the same size as its hieght.
what lid do you have on the 900 ,aros jump very quickly when scared thru the smallest gaps,I learnt that the hard way a few years ago.

 

I've modified my tank's canopy to slide open rather than lift, as less area is available for him to jump through and it decreases the risk of the lid dropping and freaking him out. This also helps with my shovelnose as he can be a bit skittish from time to time.

 

i'v just got the one pump head that came with the tank i was told that was sufficient but i have been thinking of adding another or upgrading the current one,my tank is sealed up tight aint no1 gettin out
