I just finished setting up my new tank on Friday, still choosing fish and today read some horror stories about the H2o tanks. My tank is 1000mmx600x400 (see attached photos) do I have reasons for concern, should I try and return it (I doubt I could...) should I look for a new hobby...?

Well, it's a 50/50 thing dude... Some people have had their Aqua H20 tanks for years and never ever had a problem, while others have had theirs crack on them. Don't worry about it. It may never happen to you. But if it does, then they should replace it. Also, check with your insurance company and make sure the tank is insured. Then if the pet shop doesn't replace it, your insurance will. They will also cover the damage done to floors and all that jazz as well...

    Don't stress about it.

they break on the curved corners because the right thickness of glass wasnt used to make them, especially after a couple of water changes or after a move when there is more stress on the glass. I would try my best to return it if i was you, maybe if you take something bigger from them ?

I am certainly not going to sleep well tonight... I am afraid i will have very little negotiating power with the shop, (that if they are ever prepared to consider a swap)

Just go back, say you think you need something bigger and pay in a little, surely they will go for that.

you think i should say that or rather the truth? ...
As for insuring the tank, my concern is the collateral damage of a burst tank (fish, files, book and time) not only the financial loss....

    Hmm, well

You could go and swop the tank for a bigger one . . .and pay a difference

You will lose out big time . . but gain peace of mind that your tank wont crack on you.

Go for Boyu . . Best in the game at the moment

If you say that, they will just try to convince you that the tank will never crack

Quickly measure the thickness of the glass, and have a look if you can see how much thinner is where it curves.

In FW those tanks are OK-ish, most disasters have been with marine tanks. You should be covered by normal homeowners insurance for water damage etc. If you unsure I can get a guy to give you a shout , he has a fishtank insurance product. Just pop me an e-mail info@finsandfangs.co.za

Insurance cover is possible... depending who you with. If you specifically request to cover a tank, they will charge you a premium. If you have normal household insurance (i.e CONTENTS) then the tank is covered under a "loophole" in that it covers glass breaking. (They really covering your tv here, but a tank is considered glass). Just check your fine print for exclusions.

Water damage to carpet is ONLY covered under BUILDING INSURANCE. NOT household insurance. The 2 insurance are vastly different. The MOVABLE stuff inside your house. Building insurance is to cover for damage to the property... i.e fire, flood, etc. If you stay in a complex, flats, or rent, you can't get building insurance. This falls to the complex.

    the tank is beautiful..

under law, anything that you purchase may be returned within 72 hours with no explanation needed.

give the consumer protector a call to clarify, explain your situation and ask them for advice which they will give freely. rather call than mail as time is not on your side and you cannot afford to wait till someone returns your e-mail.

Ok guys, good news they are willing to take the tank back. my options are (all for same price) Juwels Rio 240 or Juwels vision 260 or a nice big Buyo (340litter) which is bigger then the 2 juwels. any idea?

Damn nice of them....My 2 cents worth - Go for the Boyu....More space/water...less hassle and more stable system....Although the Juwels are REALY nice..... You decide: Space/ease on one side vs. Design excelence on other....

Natnat MDN is right under the consumer law you have the right to return your purchase with 7 days if you not happy with the product. This is known has excitment purchase. All you need to do is take your tank back to where you purchased it from and have it returned. It is as simple as 1 2 3........
