The first link seems to come up with an error, or maybe it's the right page?

You talk about people not eating their ornamental fish.... A girl was telling me the other day that a client of hers rented out his hose and left his Koi there in the pond, apparently the 3 biggest Koi were a value of R76 000-00 combined. He went back to check the house out and to his horror the tenants had eaten the 3 biggest ones and that all that he has left are a few of the smaller Koi and a few Goldfish... Apparently the tenants were white and the total damages done to the rented property so far are in excess of R250 000-00...

I think I would have shot them if I had discovered they had eaten 3 of my prize fish, but it seems as if they did a midnight flit...

    It takes all kinds!

Sorry to hijack your thread Ferdie, just had to let you know that there are people that do in fact eat ornamental fish...

hmm link works for me .. try this issuu.com/international_aquafeed/docs/iaf1201w1

I know people eat pets and what we think is ornamental fish .. do a search on alibaba.com for gourami - you will immediately get a few hits for canned or salted gourami.

Mot sure I would want to eat my fish ... but hey that might be a model for the future aquaponics and all.

pangasius, gouramis, various catfish etc gets farmed in asia. We work with a few aquaculture farms in SA but the issues to get permits tends to sink the projects before they get off the ground

Must say I would love to see some real aqua-farming, I recall as a lad going to a trout farm in Franschhoek ... but seeing them in asia would be such a treat. Wonder if Zambia would be open to this type of thing? Export to the rest of Africa ...

Aquaculture is pretty big in Moz at the moment. They farm tilapia on a massive scale. Compared to other protein sources it is very cheap, very intensive (high yield per sq/km) etc.

Yeah - also recall it is the best at converting wheat (or was the plant material) based feeds to protein ... probably way of the future.
